Dear HP Support,

I am reaching out regarding an ongoing issue with my HP system, which is equipped with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor and BIOS version Insyde F.15 (Motherboard model 8C99, version 10.35),

Windows 11 version 24H2

Geforce version: 576.52 (Mon May 19, 2025)

When attempting to play Commandos: Origins (an Unreal Engine 5 game), the game fails to launch or crashes shortly after startup. This issue is not isolated; it appears to be related to known instabilities with Unreal Engine games on systems using Intel’s 13th and 14th generation processors.

Intel has publicly acknowledged this issue, stating:

“Intel has reproduced the issue under certain workloads and is actively working with partners to implement a fix via BIOS updates and microcode changes.”

I have already updated my BIOS and all drivers, but the problem persists. I would like to know:

  • Is HP planning to release a BIOS or microcode update to address this issue?
  • If so, is there an estimated timeline for availability?
  • Are there any temporary settings or patches HP recommends to mitigate the issue in the meantime?

Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to your response and any assistance you can offer.

Best regards,

Freek Roovers

Hi @Freekroovers85

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If Unreal Engine 5 games such as Commandos: Origins are crashing or failing to launch on your HP system, follow the steps below to isolate the issue and ensure the system is using the latest firmware and software. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Step 1: Update the BIOS

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Enter your product number or serial number.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS available for your model.
  • Connect the AC adapter before starting the update.
  • Restart the computer after the BIOS update is complete.

HP has incorporated Intel's latest microcode updates into BIOS releases for supported systems. If a newer BIOS is available for your model, installing it is the recommended first step.

Step 2: Update Windows

  • Open Settings > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.
  • Restart the computer.

Step 3: Update Graphics Drivers

Since Unreal Engine 5 relies heavily on the GPU:

  • Install the latest NVIDIA Game Ready Driver using the NVIDIA App or HP Support. https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • If your notebook includes Intel integrated graphics, also update the Intel graphics driver from HP Support.

Restart the system after installation.

Step 4: Verify Game Files

If using Steam:

  • Open Steam Library.
  • Right-click Commandos: Origins.
  • Select Properties > Installed Files.
  • Click Verify integrity of game files.

If using another launcher, use its equivalent repair option.

Step 7: Reset BIOS Settings

  • Restart the computer.
  • Press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Press F9 to load BIOS defaults.
  • Press F10 to save and exit.

Step 8: Perform a Clean Boot

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. Select Hide all Microsoft services.
  3. Click Disable all.
  4. Open Task Manager from the Startup tab.
  5. Disable all startup applications.
  6. Restart the computer and test the game.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
