Hi there,

I'm trying to factory reset my notebook in preperation for it to be sold, however whenever I try to factory reset, it'll go as far as the restart, get a few percent in and fail. I've tried doing only the drive where windows is installed but that doesn't seem to work either.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Update:  Now laptop cannot find boot device after it passed the quick test not sure what to do.

Both the reset fail and the current error message imply that the drive is failing, and in that case, will not reset nor boot.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

Please report back the test results.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back, I've ran the quick tests though not through the bios, instead the dialog the laptop is stuck on insists I press f2 which takes me to another dialog where I can run a memory test and hard drive test. Both tests passed, but I read that article you sent and it may be the case this doesn't work for SSD's, my laptop has both an SSD and HDD, I initially had Windows 10 on my SSD.

Hope this helps...
