If the CPU gets to a certain temp, it will automatically shut down. This is built into the intel processor itself.
But, you don't want to let it run really hot on a continual basis either.
What is the usage for each core? You can look in the Task Manger to bring that up.
If the usage is 100% on one core but your temps are not up, i hear it could be a bug issue. FarCry4 had issues and there are patches out for them. Here is one work around that worked for this guy... YouTube.
You will need to look in the FarCry forums for more info on this. They will be more familiar with the problems and fixes than we will here.

Yes its possible if it got hot enough.
I assume you are having this issue now? I can try to help, but would need better details as to what you are doing when this happens. What game, how long into playing the game, what settings you have, etc.
Is the air vent blocked or need cleaning?
