Laptop CPU overheated, i was doing a power test on the laptop to discover what was wrong with it. After 30 mins the screen shut down and the keyboard was flickering, logs said it was the lid being closed but instantly opened again. Now does not turn on. I just want to warn others about this bad quality. The laptop does not even have 3 years. Hp Victus 16-r0016ns

Hi @jcmz
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HP Victus 16-r0016ns laptop. Overheating can sometimes lead to hardware failure, and it sounds like your laptop may be facing a significant problem. Here's what you can try to troubleshoot the issue and possibly bring the laptop back to life:
1. Power Cycle the Laptop
- Unplug the laptop from the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if it’s removable).
- Hold the power button down for about 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- After doing that, plug the battery back in (if you removed it) and try turning it on again.
2. Check for Overheating Protection
- It’s possible that the laptop shut down due to thermal protection (the CPU overheating) to avoid damage.
- Let the laptop cool down for at least 30 minutes or more before trying to turn it on again.
- After it has cooled down, try turning it on.
3. Inspect the Laptop for Physical Damage
- Check if there are visible signs of damage such as burn marks or physical issues around the cooling vents or CPU area. Overheating can cause thermal damage to internal components.
- Make sure the cooling fan is not clogged with dust. If it is, cleaning it out may help restore normal airflow and cooling.
4. Test with External Display
- Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor or TV to see if the laptop is still functioning but the internal display is not working.
- If the external display shows the laptop’s screen, it could be an issue with the internal screen or the connection to the motherboard.
5. Try Safe Mode (if you can get it to boot)
- If the laptop turns on but does not boot normally, try entering Safe Mode:
- Power on the laptop and repeatedly press the F8 or Shift + F8 key.
- If you can access Safe Mode, this can help you identify software or driver-related issues.
6. Perform a Hard Reset
- For HP laptops, a hard reset can sometimes resolve issues when the laptop isn’t turning on.
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Remove the battery if it's removable.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery).
- Try powering it on.
7. Try to Access BIOS/UEFI
- Power on the laptop and press the Esc key repeatedly to enter the BIOS or UEFI settings. If you can access it, that would indicate the laptop's motherboard is still functioning, and the problem might be with the operating system or software.
8. Check the Battery and Power Adapter
- If the laptop doesn't turn on, it’s possible the battery or power adapter is faulty.
- Try using a different charger or plug the charger into a different power outlet
I hope this helps.

same problem.
why it overheated, well the fans never spined up.
now i was told this is due to the ir sensor on the device.
why have such a laggy and unresponsive tech, not to mention sensitive to dust.. that instead of pushing the fans up it pulls them down ? and then your stuck with a expensive device with expensive replacement parts that.. i feel could just be by passed and as a compromise fans forced to 100%.. better than having these expensive devices literally execute themself.

sadly none of those options resolve the named symptoms and the repair cost is not 0
i suggest you research your own laptops problem.
it's a VERY COMMON SYMPTOMS OF MOST HP LAPTOPS AND THE WARANTY.. FAILS THE MOMENT IT DOES.

To further clarify, I've tried everything there is to try, trust me. Even replaced the ssd with another, aswell as ram. So the problem is either: 1. Motherboard, 2. CPU, 3. GPU. I've sent it to a laboratory for investigation, still no conclusions, but they are thinking it's the GPU, even though I think it's the CPU, because the power test I did was on the CPU and not the GPU. Bad build, bad quality. Can't say much more about it than disappointed...
