Hi @Ananda14101994,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP laptop display isn't working but functions well with an external monitor, it points to potential issues with the laptop's internal display, graphics driver, or cable connections. Here are steps to diagnose and fix the problem.
Check Display Toggle Key:
- Many laptops have a function key (often labeled as "F4," "F5," or with a display icon) to toggle between laptop and external monitor displays. Press that key to see if the internal display turns on.
Graphics Driver Update:
- Connect the laptop to the external monitor.
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics device, and select Update driver.
Reinstall Display Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click your graphics adapter and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop to let Windows reinstall the drivers automatically.
Check Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Ensure that the laptop display is recognized and set as the main display.
Inspect Physical Connections:
- Power off the laptop and gently check if the display cable connecting the motherboard and screen is securely in place. This usually requires removing the keyboard or back panel, so proceed with caution.
Perform a System BIOS Update:
- Visit HP Support and download the latest BIOS update for your laptop model. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.
Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- Press the power button and repeatedly tap the F2 key to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu.
- Run the display test to check for any hardware issues.
Factory Reset: (as a last resort)
- Backup your data and perform a factory reset using HP Recovery Manager to rule out software conflicts. This can sometimes resolve stubborn issues that affect display configurations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
