Hi so i got this HP victus 15 laptop in december and now in games my frames keep dropping suddenly, on games i used to have constant 144-200 fps on it keeps dropping from 144 too 80 making my game lag constantly
(the laptop https://www.amazon.com/HP-Victus-GeForce-Backlit-Windows/dp/B0CCXHXZVP/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2N34EYWMQ5CSS... )
I think the reason for this is due to the ram it's only 8gb and most of the time like 6 of it is in use, but im not sure if this is correct so can someone please help me?

Hi @peisum,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Certainly, I can provide some general guidance on troubleshooting performance issues with your laptop. While insufficient RAM can be a contributing factor to performance problems, there could be various other reasons for frame drops in games.
Here are some steps you can take to identify and potentially resolve the issue.
Check System Resources:
- Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and monitor the usage of CPU, GPU, and RAM while playing games. Look for any unusual spikes or high usage that may coincide with frame drops.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Visit the official website of your GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA or AMD) and download the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Power Settings:
- Make sure your laptop is set to high-performance mode while gaming. Adjust power settings to prioritize performance over power saving.
Cooling:
- Overheating can cause performance issues. Check if your laptop is getting hot during gaming. Ensure that the cooling system is working properly, and consider using a cooling pad to help with heat dissipation.
Background Processes:
- Close unnecessary background processes and applications that might be consuming system resources. This includes browser tabs, software updates, and other non-essential applications.
Storage Space:
- Check if your storage drive has enough free space. Running out of storage space can impact overall system performance.
Game Settings:
- Adjust in-game graphics settings. Lowering the graphical settings can improve performance.
RAM Upgrade:
- If your laptop allows it, consider upgrading your RAM to 16GB. This can help with smoother multitasking and gaming performance, especially if your current usage is close to the available capacity.
Malware and Antivirus:
- Perform a full system scan for malware using a reliable antivirus program.
Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
