Hi @Strakata75

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how unsettling it must feel to see your laptop crash and then face a “boot device not found” message. Thank you for sharing the details of what you’ve already observed—it helps narrow down the possibilities.

Let’s walk through some clear steps together to check whether the SSD or another factor is causing this behavior:

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. Shut down the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery if it is removable.
  3. Hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  4. Reconnect the battery and adapter, then power on the system.

Step 2: Run Hardware Diagnostics

HP laptops include built-in diagnostics to test the SSD and other components.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Power it on and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics screen appears.
  3. Select Component TestsStorageQuick Test.
  4. If no issues are found, run the Extensive Test for a deeper check.

You can find detailed instructions here: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures | HP® Support

Step 3: Check BIOS Settings

  1. Restart the laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Ensure the SSD is listed under Storage or Boot Options.
  3. Confirm that the boot order has your SSD as the first device.
  4. Save changes and exit.

Step 4: Update BIOS and Drivers

Keeping BIOS and drivers current can prevent instability.

  1. Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your laptop’s product name or serial number.
  3. Download and install the latest BIOS and storage drivers available.

Step 5: Windows Disk Check

  1. Boot into Windows if possible.
  2. Open File Explorer, right-click your SSD drive (usually C:), select Properties.
  3. Go to the Tools tab and under Error checking, click Check.
  4. Allow Windows to scan and repair any detected issues.

If the SSD passes diagnostics but the error persists, it may point to a loose connection or software corruption rather than a failing drive. These steps should help you isolate the cause and bring back stability.
