Hi @diksha8

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how worrying it feels when a new laptop begins to heat up, make noises, and lag during use. You’ve already observed the symptoms carefully, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put into describing them—it helps us focus on the right solutions.

Let’s go step by step to improve cooling, reduce lag, and stabilize performance on your Windows 11 system.

Steps to Reduce Heat, Noise, and Lag

Check Airflow and Placement

  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper ventilation.
  • Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or couches, which block airflow.
  • Clean the air vents with compressed air to remove dust buildup.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Enter your laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and system drivers.
  • Updates often improve fan control and thermal management.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Press F2 repeatedly while the laptop starts to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the System Test and Thermal Test to check for hardware issues.
  • This ensures the cooling system and components are functioning correctly.

Adjust Power Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & battery.
  • Select Balanced or HP Recommended power plan.
  • This reduces strain on the CPU and helps control heat.

Monitor Background Processes

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Check for apps consuming high CPU or memory.
  • End unnecessary tasks to reduce lag and overheating.

Update Windows

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates.
  • Updates often include performance and stability improvements.

Run HP App Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Select Support > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the prompts to automatically detect and resolve performance issues.

Cooling Assistance

  • If you use the laptop for long sessions, consider a cooling pad to improve airflow.
  • This helps keep temperatures lower during heavy workloads.
