Hello, yesterday, while playing Apex Legends, my laptop restarted suddenly. There was no heating or any bluescreen errors. I have tested it with other games, and the same thing happened. I have checked the event logs for Windows 11, and there was an error. Can someone guide me on what the issue is?
Laptop Specs:
System Model OMEN Slim Gaming Laptop 16-an0xxx
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 285H, 2900 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
GPU: Intel(R) Arc(TM) 140T GPU (16GB) and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU
Disk: Samsung NVMe 980 Pro 1TB & Samsung

Hi @Naveed53
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I completely understand how frustrating it must feel when your laptop restarts suddenly in the middle of gaming, especially without any warning signs like overheating or blue screens.
Thank you for sharing the detailed information and even checking the Event Viewer—that’s a great step and shows you’ve already done some careful troubleshooting.
Let’s walk through this together with a clear set of checks and adjustments that can help stabilize your system.
Check Windows Reliability Monitor
- Open the Start menu and type “Reliability Monitor.”
- Look for red X entries around the time of the restart. This often gives clearer insight into whether it was a driver, hardware, or service crash.
Update Graphics Drivers
- Since your system uses both Intel Arc and NVIDIA RTX GPUs, make sure both drivers are fully updated.
- Use Intel Driver & Support Assistant for the Arc GPU and NVIDIA GeForce Experience for the RTX GPU.
- Outdated or conflicting drivers can cause sudden restarts under heavy load.
Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → select “High Performance.”
- Under advanced settings, ensure “Processor power management” minimum is set to 5% and maximum at 100%.
- Disable “Fast Startup” in Windows (found under Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do).
Check Event Viewer Error (Service Control Manager 7023)
- The error you saw mentions RstMvService. This is related to Intel Rapid Storage or memory virtualization services.
- If you don’t use Intel Optane or RAID features, you can safely disable this service:
- Press Win+R → type services.msc.
- Locate “RstMvService,” right-click → Properties → set Startup type to “Disabled.”
- Restart your laptop and test again.
Stress Test Components
- Run a GPU stress test (e.g., 3DMark or Unigine Heaven) and monitor stability.
- Run a CPU stress test (e.g., Cinebench or Prime95) to check if the restart happens outside of gaming.
- This helps isolate whether the issue is GPU, CPU, or system service related.
Check BIOS and Firmware
- Open HP App → check for BIOS updates and system firmware updates.
- A BIOS update often improves stability with newer Intel Arc and NVIDIA GPU combinations.
Thermal and Power Monitoring
- Even if you didn’t notice heating, use OMEN Gaming Hub or HWMonitor to track CPU/GPU temperatures and power draw during gameplay.
- Sudden restarts can sometimes be triggered by power delivery issues rather than heat.
Try disabling the RstMvService first, since that matches the error you found. Then update both GPU drivers and BIOS. After that, test with Apex Legends again. If the restart persists, the stress tests will help pinpoint whether it’s hardware load or a background service conflict.
You’ve already done a great job by checking the logs—it shows you’re methodical in your approach. With these steps, we should be able to narrow down the cause and bring back that smooth gaming experience.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
