Hi @Shooshoo1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Here is exactly how to move the cursor and turn your touchpad back on step-by-step:

1. The Quick Fix (Try this first)

Many laptops have a special "shortcut" key on the top row of your keyboard that turns the touchpad on and off. Look at the icons on your F1 through F12 keys at the very top of your keyboard.

  • Look for an icon that looks like a little square touchpad (sometimes with a slash through it).

  • Press that key by itself, or press and hold the Fn key (usually at the bottom left) while pressing that key.

2. How to move your cursor without a touchpad

If the shortcut key didn't work, you can use your keyboard to navigate back to the settings you turned off:

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard (it has a Windows logo) to open the Start menu.

  • Type the word Touchpad right on your keyboard, then press Enter.

  • This will open the Touchpad settings menu.

3. How to turn the touchpad back on

  • Once the settings menu opens, press the Tab key on your keyboard. You will see a faint square or dotted box highlighting different options on your screen.

  • Keep pressing Tab until the box highlights the Touchpad On/Off switch (or the reset button).

  • Press the Spacebar on your keyboard. This acts like a "click" and will flip the switch back to ON.

4. If nothing else works: The "Restart"

If you can't get the keys to work, the easiest thing to do is simply restart your computer. This forces Windows to turn everything back on automatically.

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard.

  • Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow until you highlight the power icon.

  • Press Enter, then select Restart and hit Enter again.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
