Linux boot entry not detected by BIOS

Hello,

I have an HP OMEN MAX 16 16-ah0000 with a Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5080, running Windows 11 and Arch Linux in dual boot, with Secure Boot enabled (both on windows and arch).

I recently noticed that my Arch Linux UEFI boot entry no longer appears in the BIOS Boot Options menu.

Arch Linux and systemd-boot work perfectly, and I can still boot Linux by going to Boot From EFI File and manually selecting the systemd-boot EFI file.

I checked the UEFI entries from Linux with efibootmgr, and the Linux boot entry is present and valid.

I also noticed something unusual: if I rename the Linux UEFI entry from "Linux Boot Manager" to "Windows Boot Manager", the BIOS immediately detects and displays it.

I have tried recreating the UEFI entry and changing the boot order with efibootmgr, but the BIOS still does not display the Linux entry under its normal name.

I am currently using BIOS version F.22. I have also tried updating to F.23 Rev.A, but the update always fails regardless of the method I use.

Is this a known BIOS/UEFI issue on the OMEN MAX 16, or could this be specific to my machine/configuration?

If it is a configuration issue, what can I do to fix it properly while keeping Secure Boot enabled? If it is a firmware issue, is a BIOS update planned?

I can provide any relevant information and diagnostic data available to me if needed.

I understand that your OMEN MAX 16 16-ah0000 can boot Arch Linux successfully, but the Linux UEFI boot entry does not appear normally in the BIOS Boot Options menu. You can still start Linux through Boot From EFI File, and the entry is visible when checked from Linux.

Because this configuration involves Arch Linux, systemd-boot, efibootmgr, and Secure Boot, the issue is related to the Linux UEFI boot configuration/interaction with the firmware.

I recommend posting this information in the Arch Linux community/forums, where the Linux boot configuration can be investigated in detail.

For the BIOS F.23 Rev.A update failure, however, we can assist with the HP BIOS update itself. If you would like help with that part, please let us know how you are attempting the BIOS update and what error/message you receive when it fails.
