Hi, i have an hp victus 15 with the rtx 4050 and the intel i5 13420h but When I first bought the laptop, all games ran smoothly with balanced performance. However, now when I run any game (such as Watch Dogs, GTA V, or PUBG), I get abnormally poor performance statistics:

· The CPU usage spikes to 100% constantly.
· The GPU usage only reaches 34-35% at most.
· FPS are low and unstable (around 45 FPS).

This shows that the processor is working at its maximum limit while the graphics card is being underutilized. This indicates an abnormal bottleneck that did not exist when the laptop was new.

I have performed multiple tests and adjustments on my own (driver updates, power configuration changes, software reinstallation, among others) without any improvement.

Hi @Zedt

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the performance concerns you are experiencing with your HP Victus 15 equipped with Intel Core i5‑13420H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050. Thank you for sharing the detailed observations. Based on the CPU spikes and low GPU utilization, here are recommended steps to help restore balanced performance:

Step 1: Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App
Open the HP App from Windows Start > HP App. Select Diagnose & Fix and allow it to scan for hardware and performance issues. This tool automatically checks for bottlenecks and applies corrective measures.
HP App – Diagnose & Fix Guide

Step 2: Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Visit the official HP Support page for your model:
HP Victus 15‑fa1000 series Drivers & Downloads
Download and install the latest BIOS and Intel chipset drivers. This ensures proper CPU‑GPU coordination after system updates.

Step 3: Graphics Drivers via HP Support
Update the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 driver and Intel graphics driver directly from the HP Support page above. HP‑certified versions are optimized for your system and can correct GPU underutilization.

Step 4: Power Reset and Thermal Check

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter.
  3. Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect and power on.
This clears residual charge and stabilizes hardware. Also ensure vents are clear of dust and the laptop is placed on a hard surface for proper airflow.

Step 5: Performance Tune‑up in HP App
In HP App, run Performance Tune‑up Check to clear temporary files and optimize startup. Disable unnecessary background apps via Task Manager > Startup tab.

Step 6: Verify PCIe Link Width
In HP App, use Diagnose & Fix > Component Tests to validate GPU detection and PCIe bandwidth. If the GPU is not operating at full x16 link width, reinstall the chipset and graphics drivers from HP Support.

These steps are designed to restore responsiveness, balance CPU/GPU usage, and stabilize FPS. Please proceed in the given order, and let us know the results after applying them.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, i already did all the steps and still not working the cpu always hit more % on games that on normal benchmarks hit maximun 30% i dont know if exists more methods to  try or someone can help more closer because it’s kinda frustrating not having the correct fps with a powerful computer. Thanks

Thank you for confirming that you have already completed the recommended steps. Since the initial measures did not resolve the issue, here are further steps you can try to isolate and correct the imbalance:

Step 1: Reset BIOS to Default Settings
Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup. Use the option to “Load Setup Defaults” and save changes. This ensures no custom configuration is limiting CPU/GPU coordination.

Step 2: Disable Hybrid Graphics (if available)
In BIOS, check for a setting related to “Hybrid Graphics” or “Switchable Graphics.” If present, set the system to use “Discrete Graphics” only. This forces the RTX 4050 to handle workloads directly.

Step 3: Reinstall HP System Utilities
From the HP Support page for your model, reinstall:

  • HP System Event Utility
  • HP Hotkey Support
These utilities ensure proper communication between hardware components and can correct abnormal resource allocation.

Step 4: Windows Power Plan Adjustment
Open Control Panel > Power Options. Select “High Performance” plan. Then go to “Change advanced power settings” > Processor power management. Set minimum processor state to 5% and maximum to 100%. This prevents the CPU from being locked at maximum usage unnecessarily.

Step 5: HP App – Battery and Thermal Calibration
In HP App, run Battery Calibration and Thermal Tune‑up. This helps stabilize thermal management, which can otherwise cause CPU throttling and GPU underutilization.

Step 6: Clean Installation of HP Graphics Drivers
Uninstall both Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers from Device Manager. Restart the system. Then install the HP‑certified versions from the HP Victus 15‑fa1000 series support page:
HP Victus 15‑fa1000 Drivers & Downloads

These steps are designed to reset hardware coordination, ensure the RTX 4050 is prioritized, and stabilize CPU usage. Please apply them in order and share the outcome so we can continue refining the solution together.
