Hello

 

I have problem with omen laptop freezing and doing random restarts.

 

i have gone through every possible solution.

 

bios update done

reinstslled windows x2

drivers good

Ac adapte/battery good

Ram good

ssd good

no heating problem (even tho omen 15 is widely known for its heat) but problem occurs even without 50c 

Ec reset done

i have visually looked motherboard no visual dmg.

 

Voltage jumps as does gpu speed even without load. 

this series also had problem with power rail which i suspect.

 

No BSOD but just errors when freezing. 

Tried to undervolt it, freezes, when i set high performance voltage and gpu speed fluctuation stops. 

i am out of ideas.

i have come to a state where at "idle" computer works, no restarts and no freezes, under load it crashes. 

 

most far ive gotten past 2 days.

Given your detailed testing, here’s a focused path to help isolate the fault further:

 

1. Power Delivery and Load Behavior

Since the system runs fine at idle but crashes under load, and undervolting worsens the issue, this points strongly to unstable power delivery—possibly at the VRM (voltage regulator module) level.

  • Try running on battery only (AC adapter disconnected) and apply a light load (e.g., video playback or browser stress test). If it crashes faster, it may confirm instability in the power rail or switching logic between battery and adapter.
  • Switch to a different AC adapter with matching wattage and connector type, if available, just to rule out adapter-induced ripple or undervoltage under load.

 

2. GPU and Voltage Monitoring

Use OMEN Gaming Hub or HWInfo64 to monitor real-time GPU and CPU voltage, frequency, and power draw.

  • Look for voltage drops or spikes when the system transitions from idle to load.
  • If GPU speed stabilizes only under high performance mode, it suggests the system is struggling to regulate dynamic voltage scaling.

 

3. Disable Dynamic Power Features

In Windows:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings.
  • Under Processor power management, set Minimum and Maximum processor state to 100%.
  • Disable PCI Express > Link State Power Management.

This forces consistent voltage and may reduce instability from power state transitions.

 

4. Run HP Diagnostics Offline

Use HP’s built-in UEFI diagnostics to test motherboard components:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup, then choose F2 for diagnostics.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test, especially focusing on Motherboard, Processor, and Graphics.

5. Consider BIOS Power Settings

If your BIOS has options like:

  • Dynamic Power Technology
  • CPU VR Settings
  • Platform Power Management

Try disabling them or setting to static/manual modes. This can reduce voltage fluctuation and stabilize GPU behavior.

Thank you and i really appreciate your reply.

 

as i have 2 hr log in timer ( due many restarts ) before i can try these things i have couple things to clarify.

 

EDIT: if i remove left fan computer instantly recognizes it and send me a warning. Which begs the question that does ec actually work or is it just partially working. 

 

few days back i got system stable at idle(meaning i could do simpler tasks). I also have gotten cpu speed and voltage under control ( idle )  No more spikes yet the problem still persists. Yesterday it didnt  handle idle either.

 

problem persists with or without charger plugged in. I have checked hwinfo and no power fluctuations to be noticed. 

i have run diagnostics on bios and not a single fault detected. What i am suspecting is Embedded Controller since it is a “seperate” unit and independent unit therefore diagnostics will not bring the fault out ( correct me if i am wrong) 

 

After digging i think its fair to point out that few months before the incident letter C did not work( i did not put the puzzle together right away) and like a month ago the letter c works perfectly again. 

after some solutions ( not sure which one because i went through all of them) left fan is stuck at max speed while right one is normal. ( i have tried to disable gpu so the data goes from cpu rather than gpu) but the problem is still there. 

As im writing this to wait out the 2hr timer so i can log in i just seen it crashed at windows log in screen with error ( whea 0x124)


Im not sure but i dont think power fluctuations causes the problem. 

ty again. I just tried to inform as much as possible so it would be easier for both of us. 🙂
