Hi,
It's been more than 6 months since i got this laptop from secondhand.
Run all important benchmarks and tests, even hp diagnostics and everything seems right, there is no problem.
Weeks later i tried to open some AAA Games with high GPU usage and notice that my GPU crashes constantly on those games, previous owner used laptop for work needs so probably didn't notice.
First, i tried to solve it myself, reinstalled GPU drivers, updated all drivers, made fresh windows install, even downgraded my GPU with Afterburner but none of them worked.
Then i monitored issue with OMEN Gaming Hub's system vitals and some monitoring programs, first thing first, there is no overheat, when GPU crashes temperature stays around 70-80 degrees. Been using second display but crashes also occurs without second display.
My personal opinion is either it is a hardware issue with motherboard or GPU or my power supply / battery makes my GPU crash somehow (because motherboard changed 2 times on hp service)
And my overwhelming hp service adventure started, i sent my laptop 4 times and yet my issues didn't resolved. First of all i need to give laptop by hand to service. Since i live in a big city, it takes me 4-5 hours to get there and back, i also go this road to retrieve the laptop, minimum 8 hours per service and since i made it 4 times it is minimum of 32 hours on roads.
First service: They said all diagnostics and test made, there is no problem. When i test in games its all same.
Second service: They said they changed motherboard. When i test in games its all the same.
Third service: They said they cleaned and refreshed thermal grease, tests ok. When i test in games its all same.
Fourth service: They said they found hardware problem on GPU and again changed motherboard. When i test in games its all the same.
I also tried to return laptop or replace with a new one but here is the issue: second owner of this laptop lost receipt so it is not possible, i am able to use hp laptop service because guarantee is visible on HP's systems and i am not obligated to give receipt for service usage.
Also duration that laptop stayed on service will be added to guarantee they said but currently my laptop's guarantee shows "expired" on website. Without addition it was until 2025.
So its been more than 6 months i couldn't use my laptop properly, can't game on a gaming laptop, i don't know what i should do, it's pitiful.

Hi @AbdyDev,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The persistent crashes on your HP Omen 16 are frustrating, especially after extensive troubleshooting and multiple service visits. Since you've already tried many standard and advanced steps, let’s focus on deeper diagnostics and alternative approaches.
Check GPU Power Delivery
- Undervolt the GPU: Use a tool like MSI Afterburner to slightly undervolt the GPU. This can stabilize power delivery if the GPU is receiving inconsistent voltage.
- Test a Different Charger: If you can, borrow another HP-compatible charger with the same specifications to rule out power delivery issues from the adapter.
Disable Optimus (if applicable)
- If your laptop uses NVIDIA Optimus (switchable graphics), disable it through the BIOS or use the NVIDIA Control Panel to force the laptop to always use the discrete GPU. Optimus can cause crashes in high-performance scenarios.
Run GPU Stress Tests
- Use tools like FurMark or OCCT to stress-test the GPU under controlled conditions. Monitor for crashes and look for artifacts or other signs of instability.
Check the Event Viewer
- Review Event Viewer logs after crashes, focusing on errors under Windows Logs > System and Application.
- Look for specific error codes or messages related to NVIDIA, DirectX, or power management.
Check PCIe Settings
- Go to the BIOS and ensure the PCIe slot is set to Gen3 or Gen4 (whichever is stable for your hardware).
Disable Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings, and turn off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
Perform a GPU Firmware Update
- Some GPU models have firmware updates available. Check NVIDIA's website or HP's support page for updates.
External GPU Test (if possible)
- If you can access an eGPU setup or a testing rig, verify whether the GPU behaves similarly when running externally..

Long-Term Workarounds
Lock GPU Clocks
- Use MSI Afterburner to lock the GPU's clock speed slightly below its maximum boost clock to stabilize performance.
Reduce Graphics Settings
- Lower in-game settings to medium or high to reduce GPU strain while maintaining playability.
External Cooling
- Even though temperatures seem fine, external cooling pads can help maintain stability in case of marginal thermal design issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Check GPU Power Delivery
- Undervolt the GPU: used MSI Afterburner, run at very low: 0.7v 1300mhz, now my crashes occurs not at 2. minute but at 15-20. minute. As you can think this power setting makes games unplayable because i barely get 30 fps.
Test a Different Charger: I can't find 230w charger that easily, when i asked it for testing in hp service retrieve office, they said they don't have any.
Disable Optimus (if applicable)
- Disabled optimus and made this setting NVIDIA GPU only but problem still occurs.
Run GPU Stress Tests
- GPU successfully passes stress test i made in furmark at 2k preset.
Check the Event Viewer
- At event viewer, i get this error when games crashes: nvlddmkm cannot be found
Check PCIe Settings
- Can't find that option in HP Omen BIOS Setup Utility
Disable Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)
- Turned off but i still get crash.
Perform a GPU Firmware Update
- I have tested both latest and default drivers and didn't work.
External GPU Test (if possible)
- I don't have access to an eGPU setup or a testing rig.

Lock GPU Clocks
- It doesn't prevent crashes.
Reduce Graphics Settings
- Not persistent for AAA or AA games, still get lots of crash.
External Cooling
- Crahes sometimes occurs fast before my pc even get a chance to be hot, i don't have external cooling but it shouldn't be an issue.
