Microsoft Windows 11

HP Pavilion gaming laptop I bought it in 2020.

The issue is that I left my laptop running the whole night and in the morning it was off. I tried booting it up but all I got was three blinks by the charging port but nothing else happened. I opened up my laptop to see if I could find the problem but I couldn't. I cleaned the thermal cream and am planning on replacing it later but before I wast the thermal cream. I want to know if I can repair my laptop at home or if I have to take it to a repair shop.

Hi @Dan1814,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your laptop is experiencing a hardware issue, possibly related to overheating. The blinking of the charging port LED typically indicates a hardware problem, and in your case, it could be related to the thermal issues you've mentioned.

Before attempting any repairs, it's essential to ensure your safety and avoid causing further damage to the laptop.

Here are a few steps you can take:

  • Check for visible damage: Inspect the internal components of the laptop, including the motherboard, cooling system, and any visible cables or connectors, for any signs of physical damage or loose connections.
  • Clean the cooling system: Since you mentioned cleaning the thermal paste, ensure that the cooling system, including the fans and heat sinks, is free from dust and debris. Overheating can often be caused by blocked airflow, so cleaning these components may help alleviate the issue.
  • Check for loose connections: Ensure that all cables and connectors inside the laptop are securely connected. Loose connections can cause various hardware malfunctions, including power issues.
  • Try booting with minimal components: Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals and components from the laptop, such as external drives or USB devices, and try booting the laptop with only essential components connected, such as the power adapter, battery, and display.
  • Reset BIOS settings: Sometimes, resetting the BIOS settings to default can resolve certain hardware-related issues. You can usually access the BIOS settings by pressing a specific key (e.g., F2, Del) during the boot process. Look for an option to reset or restore default settings.
  • Test with a different power adapter: If possible, try using a different power adapter to rule out any issues with the current one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
