My laptop won't turn on. When I press the power button, it seems to start up (because the power button and keyboard light up, but the screen doesn't) and it stops after 1 second. After 5 seconds, the same thing happens even though I don't even press the button. I've already tried holding the power button for 15 seconds, but it doesn't work, because as mentioned above, it does the above actions by itself. The problem started in the evening, I woke up in the morning and it's been the same since. I can't go to the service center because it's Sunday.

@irene0x0, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Laptop Startup Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your laptop is experiencing issues where it attempts to start up but the screen remains blank and it continuously restarts, consider the following troubleshooting steps.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect all peripherals: Unplug all external devices (USB drives, printers, external keyboards or mice).
  2. Remove the battery (if possible): If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
  3. Disconnect the power adapter.
  4. Hold down the power button: Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  5. Reconnect the power adapter: Plug the power adapter back in, but leave the battery out (if you removed it).
  6. Turn on the laptop: Press the power button to see if it turns on normally.

Check the Display

  1. External Monitor Test: Connect your laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue is related to your built-in display.
    • If the external monitor works, it may be an issue with your laptop’s display or display connections.

Reset Hardware Components

  1. Memory (RAM): Remove and reseat the memory modules. Sometimes, loose RAM can cause start-up issues.
    • If you have more than one memory module, try booting the laptop with one module at a time to identify if a specific module is causing the problem.

Boot Without Battery

  1. Remove Battery (if possible): If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
  2. Connect the power adapter: Plug in the power adapter.
  3. Turn on the laptop: Press the power button to see if the laptop stays on without the battery.

Power Adapter and Battery Check

  1. Test with another power adapter: Check if your power adapter is functioning properly by using another compatible adapter.
  2. Battery Test: If you removed the battery earlier, try turning on the laptop with just the battery (without the power adapter).

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
