Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T08AV)

The screen turns on and off while the computer is on, but I'm absolutely sure that the problem isn't caused by the screen.. I opened it up, gently removed the RAM and battery, and put them back in. I suspect the problem might be with the GPU. I used the computer for gaming, and it usually got as hot as a gaming laptop (70-90 degrees). Even though I updated the BIOS again today, the error persisted. I also ran a virus scan (Eset). I have a video if anyone wants to help I will try to send it right away

Hi @portAKAL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description, this sounds like a hardware-level issue, possibly related to the GPU, display cable, or power delivery system. Since you've already:

  • Updated the BIOS
  • Reseated the RAM and battery
  • Run virus scans
  • Verified the screen itself isn’t the issue

Let’s go deeper into diagnostics and possible solutions:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. External Monitor Test

Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C:

  • If the external display works fine while the internal screen flickers, the issue may be with the display cable or connector.
  • If both screens flicker, it’s likely a GPU or motherboard issue.

2. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

Even if Windows boots, you can run diagnostics outside the OS:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly on startup → Select F2: System Diagnostics.
  3. Run:
    • Display Test
    • Graphics Processor Test
    • System Board Test

Let me know if any error codes appear.

3. Check GPU Driver Stability

Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to cleanly remove GPU drivers:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode.
  2. Run DDU and remove all NVIDIA drivers.
  3. Reinstall the latest stable driver from NVIDIA’s website.

4. Thermal and Power Checks

Since you mentioned high temps (70–90°C), consider:

  • Using HWInfo to monitor GPU voltage and thermal throttling.
  • Checking for VRM overheating or power delivery instability.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
