I just bought a gaming laptop to run games in low to medium settings. I just received it in the mail today. I have been going through the setup and installing all updates, drivers, etc. I finally got to the point of installing a game to test the discrete graphics on the laptop. However, the game doesn't see the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti. It only recognizes the integrated graphics. No matter what I do I cannot get the 1050 Ti to work.
Here is what I have tried:
First, I downloaded the most recent notebook driver for the 1050 Ti directly from the Nvidia website. I then went to Nvidia control panel and set the performance graphics 1050 Ti as the global setting. I also set it for specific games I am trying to play. None of this worked.
So I tried to disable to ob-board graphics in the BIOS, however there is no feature that allows me to do this.
Then, I tried disabling the device in Device Manager. That made the laptop not recognize that even the 1050 Ti was present. So I could not do anything as far GPU settings.
I also tried to download specific Nvidia drivers from the HP website (sp92917.exe) this didn't work either.
In Device Manager, the laptop sees the 1050 Ti. At all times. But, I cannot use it.
I have tried two different games and neither recognize the 1050 Ti. The 1050 Ti is perfectly adequate for the minimum specs for both games.
I have done everything I can think of and don't know why I cannot use the discrete graphics on my brand new gaming laptop.
Please help me fix this!

I was able to resolve the issue. For anyone also having the same issue and have not been able to figure it out. Here is what I was able to figure out:
While installing updates and drivers during your first time setup, make sure that when installing the discrete GPU drivers that you DO NOT install drivers from the Nvidia website. Also, do not install Nvidia Geforce Experience. Instead, install the drivers directly from HP for laptop GPUs (Nvidia in this case). Because the laptop automatically switches between the discrete GPU and the integrated graphics to save power for longer battery life it need the drivers from HP that allow it to do so.
Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue!
