Hello i have a laptop hp pavilion gaming 15 cx-0021ne ,i read it has a M.2 pcie slot i want to know if its pcie4.0 or 3.0 or5.0 and does it have 4channel or 8/16 ,also will it support tlc cache or not like for example can it use a Western digital WD Sn850X or is it limited to SN580 and the maximum capacity like can i run it with 1TB SSD+1TB HDD?

Hi:

Your notebook's M.2 slot should be PCIe Gen 3 x 4.

The only notebook model series I know of where the NVMe slot is PCIe Gen 3 x 2 is the 15-da0xxx model series.

It will support any NVMe SSD but any drive newer than PCIe Gen 3.0 will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

You can install any NVMe SSD capacity as long as it is single-sided, up to 4 TB.

That means a drive such as the WD SN850X cannot possibly run any faster than 4,000 MBPS.

The same can be said for the SN580.

This table provides the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

Thank you so much for the info, so if i still go ahead with the sn580 will it still run at a reasonable gen 3 speed or would i be better of going with something like Sn350(Sn570 not readily available at my service center provider or amazon and some other s yhats avilable dnt have the TLC cache other suggestions for a 500gb variant will be appreciated ) of WD ssd which is a gen 3.0 to be safe with the compatibility.

Also one more question will installing this ssd in the M.2 slots affect the pcie lanes available for my Gtx1050 GPU like will it make it function worse or the pcie lanes are reserved seperately for the ssd and GPu will still be getting what its getting rn

You're very welcome.

Yes, I believe the SN580 should get you around 3,500 MBPS read/3,000 MBPS write from the slot.

I've never seen any posts where someone indicated that installing a NVMe SSD negatively affected the graphics performance, so I would say that should not be an issue.
