I own a Omen 17-ck0xxx and recently had my fans replaced due to a rattling noise. The noise is fixed now, but there's another issue my fans are running at full speed, and I can't control them using thermal control. Any solutions on how to reconfigure them to work normally again?

@yosoylegendafy, thank you for the response

You’ve done an awesome job covering all the right bases. Now, about your question on the fan swap: yes, that could absolutely be the root of the issue. Here's why:

Your original fan model (M57139-001) is thermally profiled in the BIOS for your laptop. When you replaced it with the TPN-Q266 M78888-001 (even if it fits and powers on), the BIOS may not recognize it fully.

If you want full control and proper detection again:

  • I’d recommend switching back to the original fan (M57139-001).
  • Once installed, reset the BIOS again (just to clear any residual configs).
  • Then reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub one more time for good measure.

You should regain fan speed control and monitoring.

Take care and have a good day.

@yosoylegendafy, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your OMEN 17-ck0xxx laptop fans are running at full speed and thermal control options are not working, try these:

1. Check Fan Connections

Ensure that the fans were properly connected to the motherboard during the replacement. Improper connections can cause the fans to run continuously at full speed.

2. Update BIOS (HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support)

Sometimes fan issues can be related to outdated BIOS firmware. Updating the BIOS can help resolve compatibility issues and restore normal functioning.

  • How to Update BIOS:
    1. Go to the HP Support Website.
    2. Enter your laptop model in the search bar to find the latest BIOS update.
    3. Download the BIOS update file and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

3. Reinstall OMEN Command Center

The OMEN Command Center provides control over fan speeds. Reinstalling it can help reconfigure the settings.

4. Perform Hard Reset

A hard reset can clear some system settings and configurations that might be causing the fan issue.

  • How to Perform Hard Reset:
    1. Turn off your laptop.
    2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery if possible.
    3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
    4. Reconnect the battery (if removed) and plug in the power adapter.
    5. Turn on the laptop and check if the fan issue persists.

5. Update Drivers

Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your device. Specifically, update your chipset and thermal management drivers.

  • How to Update Drivers:
    1. Go to the HP Drivers & Downloads Page.
    2. Enter your laptop model to find the recommended drivers.
    3. Download and install the latest versions of the chipset and thermal management drivers.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello @Garp_senchau, here's the troubleshooting i did. The 1st step I made sure both fans had proper connection and they are. The 2nd step I made sure I had the latest BIOS update through HP Support Assistant and its up to date. The 3rd step I uninstalled Omen Gaming Hub, restarted, booted up, reinstalled and no luck, still don't have control. The fourth step I did a hard reset multiple times to be sure and that also brought no results. The 5th Step I made sure all my drivers were up to date with my HP Support Assistant and Windows Update with no results. Here's something that might have contributed to this issue is that I replaced the fans with a TPN-Q266 M78888-001 which is compatible with my laptop. The original fan model was M57139-001. Is there restrictions that stop my fans from working as intended for not getting the correct model? If there is I'll be getting the original model instead. Looking forward to your response !

That’s a tricky one. When you replace the stock fans, especially with third-party ones, Omen Gaming Hub might not recognize them anymore if they aren’t fully compatible with HP’s built-in control software. A lot of fan control is tied to the motherboard headers and firmware, so if the new fans don’t support RPM reporting or PWM control the same way, the hub can’t manage them. You might want to try using BIOS settings or a third-party tool like Argus Monitor or Fan Control to take over. Also, double-check if the fans are plugged into the same headers the originals were—sometimes that alone can make a difference, especially if you’re also running background tasks like an fc mobile download  or game update.
