It's a rare issue but I've been having this a few times now and I've lost a few projects because of it. I'm very certain it's not hardware related because it never happens under more extreme conditions. In fact it only happens when I leave the laptop with a few chrome tabs up at best. Anyhow so I when I leave (no matter if I have it connected to the charger or not) and then come back only to find out that all my running tasks have been wiped fresh. I've checked all battery, power button, screen settings and even my BIOS but I can't find anything that might cause it anyways.
This worries me deeply since this laptop has been a very firm spending for me and I've grown very attached to it. I've currently turned off screen disabling but it's not an option I have much faith in nor one I intend to get used to since I like saving energy.
Does anyone have any idea what I should do? Maybe a setting I overlooked or should I just send it back? :S

So it did it after the driver update or not???
IF so, unistall the updated driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and see how it goes.
I dont think its a driver issue, but you never know.
I know of no one else having this issue. So if you send it in, Yes it might be gone for a couple of weeks.
Its your call.

HEllo @iSeekHelp
IF this is a new system, make sure its fully updated via Windows Updates first and foremost.
Go to All Settings>Update and Security and click on the update button (even if it says its up to date), to see if it finds any other updates.
Then open the HP Support Assistant and search for any driver updates that Windows updates didnt find.
Its also a good idea to turn off Fast Startup and/or Hybrid Sleep in Windows.
Here's how... https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/support-software/How-to-disable-Sleep-Mode-or-Hibernation-793/
Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Oh yea, I've found quite a few updates that it's lacking. I'm fairly certain that will solve the issue then. I'll see if I can find a way to replicate the problem somehow afterwards. If not it's probably good right?

Thank you, I'm going to assume it's fixed now considering just how many updates I was missing out on. I guess my brain tried to avoid windows updates entirely because it's haunted my restarts for almost a decade now. I've seen turning off fast restarts being mentionned here and there on other forum posts which I tried to find before making my own but didn't think it would be that significant and HP recommended it.

" when I leave (no matter if I have it connected to the charger or not) and then come back only to find out that all my running tasks have been wiped fresh."
I need some more details then. What do you mean exactly?
All of the programs that were open are now closed when you come back to the laptop?
I was assuming you meant when the laptop is left idle for some time, it goes to sleep and when you wake it, the programs are closed? Or do you mean its still running, but Chrome and such are now closed?

It leaves itself on slumber mode except it erases all my running tasks. I've always been on a desktop and never really did anything with slumber mode but from what I've read so far this is not what it's supposed to do. It also happens when there is no automatic slumber configured. It also sometimes causes my keyboard light configurations to turn from static to off in the Omen command center.
I can usually press space and it will immediately get me into the windows screen lock.

So when it goes to "Sleep", does it wake up instantly or does the laptop go through the whole reboot process?
Also, you have it configured to not go to sleep, correct? If so, it should not be going to sleep at all.
Lets see if this helps...
Open the advanced Power Options settings.
Go down to Sleep and turn on Hybrid Sleep and turn off Hibernate.
Should look like this...

I have experimented with sleep mode and it kept all my tasks open regardless of wether I did it before entering these settings and after. It's not the same as what it does automatically while I'm away from my laptop but I hope this hybrid sleep will make a difference.
It just doesn't add up...
