Hi @Aksat1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand your concern—it’s natural to want the most stable power supply for a gaming laptop, especially when running demanding applications. You’ve already taken care to note the specifications of your Pavilion Gaming system, which helps narrow down the right guidance.

Your laptop is designed to work with a specific wattage charger that matches its power requirements. Using a higher-wattage adapter (200W or 230W) will not provide additional stability or performance, because the laptop will only draw the amount of power it is engineered to use. What matters most is ensuring the charger matches the correct voltage and connector type specified for your model. A mismatched adapter can cause charging issues or even damage components.

Here are some steps you can take to ensure the best charging experience:

Verify the Original Power Rating

  • Check the label on the underside of your laptop or the documentation that came with it.
  • Confirm the required wattage and voltage. For your configuration, the 150W adapter is the intended design.

Use Genuine HP Adapters

  • Third-party chargers may not regulate power as precisely.
  • You can find the correct adapter for your Pavilion Gaming laptop here: HP Parts Store – AC Adapters.

Inspect the Charger and Cable

  • Ensure the cable is not frayed or bent.
  • A damaged cable can cause intermittent charging or instability.

Check Power Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Set Power Mode to “Best Performance” when gaming, and “Balanced” when on battery.
  • This ensures the system uses power efficiently without stressing the adapter.

HP App Diagnostics

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Run the “Battery and Power” diagnostic to confirm the adapter is delivering consistent power.

Cooling and Stability

  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow.
  • Stable cooling helps prevent the system from drawing sudden spikes of power that could feel like instability.

In short, while a 200W or 230W adapter won’t harm the laptop if it matches the voltage and connector, it won’t improve stability beyond what the 150W adapter already provides. The key is to use the correct, genuine adapter designed for your Pavilion Gaming model.
