Hello everyone,
I will need some help.
My Laptop is HP Omen 15-DC0029na with GTX 1060 (HDMI v.2.0)
I have home cinema settup
Audio - Sony 5.1 HT-AS5 (3D) (HDMI v.1.4)
Screen 1 - Optoma Projector GT1080 (3D) (HDMI v.1.4)
Screen 2 - Sony TV KDL-50W829b (3D) (HDMI v.1.4)
Before I bought my HP Omen Laptop I had Dell 7720 17R SE with HDMI v.1.4 and I could watch 3D content on the Optoma Projector and the Sony TV, using PowerDVD 18. Never had issues.
Since I got my HP Omen Laptop I can`t watch 3D content. The only one change in my settup is the HP Omen.
So when I start playing any 3D media (on both TV or Projector) the screen blinks for a second but it is displaying the video only in 2D. I have tryed to connect the laptop directly to the projector or the TV via HDMI cable, to skip the Sony 5.1 Teather system, but same result. NO 3D output from the laptop. The HDMI cables I have are 3D capable (1.4 or 2.0)
I know that all three items in my home settup are with 1.4 HDMI and the HP Omen is with 2.0 HDMI, but as per the information online HDMI 2.0 is backward compatable with 1.4. So the problem shouldn`t be the HDMI versions here.
The operation system is Windows 10 Pro x64 and the video driver is up to date.
I have also tried another software for 3D playback Corel WinDVD Pro 12, but with absolutely same result. The video is playing in 2D, NOT 3D.
If I connect my old laptop Dell, the 3D works like charm.
Because I thought I am going crazy I have installed the both laptops with SAME Windows version, with their drivers and only PowerDVD 18. Nothing else, no other programs. Just clean Windows.
Still the same result. The HP Omen doesn`t want to output 3D signal, but the Dell`s 3D is working.
Please help me, because I really love watching 3D and it is unacceptable beast laptop like this one not to be capable of this.
Thank you

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have "15.6" diagonal FHD 144 Hz IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)" installed on this PC.
Your notebook is not capable of playing.
There is no software that will overcome the hardware limitations of your notebook.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Dear Echo_Lake,
Thank you for your quick response.
I believe I was not understood correctly.
I have a problem with the laptop with the output signal through the HDMI.
I have never intended to watch 3D content on my 2D screen which is installed on the laptop itself.
I am connecting external 3D screen (TV and Projector) to the laptop via HDMI.
When the laptop is connected to external screen, it matters ONLY the specs
of the external screen and the gpu.
The integrated/build in laptop screen it is NOT in use and it doesn`t matter in this case.
GTX 1060 is more than capable of displaying 3D frame-pack
signal through the HDMI.
My external screens (TV and Projector) are also 3D capable.
As I mentioned in my first post, my old laptop DELL, which is 6 years old
with 2D normal 1080p screen and GPU Nvidia GT650m, which is soo old and you can't compare with GTX 1060.
But the GT650m it is sending 3D signal out of the HDMI.
Also I have tested one more laptop ASUS, which also has build in regular 2D
screen, but when I connect external 3D screen to the HDMI, it is sending 3D signal through the HDMI.
I'm not trying to overcome the hardware with software.
Output 3D signal through HDMI is basic function with all GPUs with HDMI port v.1.4 and above.
It doesn`t matter it is a laptop or desktop GPU.
HDMI v.1.4 was released in 2009 (10 years ago) and the HP Omen (2018 model ) is supplied with HDMI 2.0
I want to state clear one more time, that I am NOT trying to watch 3D content on the "FHD 144 Hz IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)" installed on the laptop.
I am connecting an EXTERNAL 3D display directly to the GPU GTX 1060 via the HDMI port, which is completely difernt thing.
Thank you

Thank you for posting back.
Have you tried playing 3D content from an external USB drive?
Let's try this Workaround:
NVIDIA 3DTV Play software is available as a free upgrade for 3D Vision PCs. Download the latest
Keep me posted for further assistance.

Dear Echo_Lake
"Have you tried playing 3D content from an external USB drive?"
- Yes I have, but no difference at all. Same negative result.
"NVIDIA 3DTV Play software is available as a free upgrade for 3D Vision PCs. Download the latest"
- Before I post here I tried with "NVIDIA 3DTV Play software" and nothing happened.
I discovered from NVIDIA website and the forums, this particular software to work an "NVIDIA 3D infrared emiter" is required.
https://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-glasses.html
I don`t need or want the NVIDIA equipment. This is only for NVIDIA 3D ready monitors.
My 3D screens have nothing to do with NVIDIA or their technology.
The GPU (GTX 1060) is capable on it`s own to send "frame-packed 3D" signal through the HDMI port.
PowerDVD is one of the softwares, which is doing that.
In my case we have to find what is interfearing with the signal on the way out.
Just for the test.
1. I played 3D content on 2D screen (the integrated laptop screen and external 2D screen)
and PowerDVD warned me immediately with message " this is not 3D capapble screen"
That means PowerDVD can see that.
2. I played 3D content on my 3D TV and 3D projector and PowerDVD did NOT tell me the warning from above and continue by displaying the video.
That means it seeing the screens as 3D type
To make sure, I did that test more than 10 times and same result.
Something is interupting the signal on the way after is played.

Hello @KTR83
I have no experience with 3D projection, but I am curious about your situation.
There was an issue with some of the previous versions of the OMEN laptop where they would not work to connect a 3D headset via the HDMI port. But they would work if a display port to HDMI adapter was used.
I dont know if this would be the case for your situation, but if you can get your hands on an adapter, it would be worth a shot to test with maybe? IF the theory is right, it would indicate something wrong with the direct HDMI output and not the graphics card.
Just a suggestion. Otherwise, as was pointed out, you will have to contact HP Support directly.
Thanks

Dear @Photoray002
At first, thank you also for helping with my problem.
I was not aware about the issue you are mentioning about previous omen models with the 3D through the HDMI port.
As you suggesting, I already bought an adaptor "mini display port to HDMI" considering this might help...
But unfortunately I got the same negative result even with the adaptor.
But I haven't tried yet "USB-C Thunderbolt to HDMI" adaptor/ cable.
I'm planing to order even this one to try, but 2 major ports (HDMI & Mini display port) to have same problem...I believe is something more behind this issue.
I will address this issue to HP Support to see what they will say, but I hope you will all agree. This type of hardware (one of the latest and strongest) to fail in something like this is unacceptable!

It looks like the Optoma GT1080 might be out of date - one of the issues with older models is that the 3D projection software isn't up to date. I read a few reviews online from upset buyers who purchased a 3D 1080p projector and didn't get true 3D quality.
For the Optoma GT1080, it looks like the newer model is the Optoma EH416 Projector.
I listed it in my review for best 1080p projectors. Most of them are 1080p 3D projectors. Also, the Epson and BenQ projectors have the most 4-5 star 3D 1080p/4K projectors on Amazon.
