HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0010tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello! I recently bought a new monitor with 144hz - 165hz refresh rate. So I was thinking can I connect the USB-C Lighting port on my laptop to the monitor's DisplayPort 1.2 while still be able to get 165hz refresh rate?

My HP Pavilion Gaming laptop's product number: 15-dk0xxx

My question is will it work? I have looked for information about HDMI to DisplayPort but it seems that there are not much data about this field. So I changed my plan from using HDMI to USB-C. Please let me know if it works or I need to use a specific adapter to make it work.

Thanks in advance.

The specs of your machine is

Firstly your machine does NOT have Lighting port. It has  1 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C™ (10 Gb/s signaling rate, Power Delivery 3.0, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) port.

With a compatible USB-C to DP 1.4 adapter, you can get (in theory)  8K UHD (7680 × 4320) at 60 Hz or 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) at 120 Hz with 30 bit/px RGB color and HDR.

What is the NATIVE resolution of your monitor ? The rule is resolution goes up refresh rate will go down and vice versa  therefore you may be able to get 165Hz on 1920 x 1080 resolution monitors

Regards.
