Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a serious issue with my OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b1000 (4Z7T3AV). Since yesterday, the built-in display has stopped working.
It all started after performing some updates—at first, I noticed flickering bands appearing on the search bar at the bottom of the screen. These would disappear after some time, but the problem kept returning. After installing additional updates, the issue worsened, and eventually, the screen went completely black.
I've tried the following troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists:
- Rolled back to the previous Windows version (Windows 11, version 23H2)
- Uninstalled some drivers
- Attempted to boot into Safe Mode, but the screen remains black
However, there are some things to note:
- The "OMEN" logo appears at startup
- Occasionally, when I unplug the external monitor, the built-in display works for a few seconds before going black again
- The laptop works fine when connected to an external monitor, but the built-in display does not function at all
Does anyone know how I can fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

@FraWing2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your OMEN 16 display not working after updates!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand that your OMEN 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop’s built-in display is not functioning after recent updates. Since you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps, I recommend following these additional steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Windows Display Settings
- Connect an external monitor and check if the built-in display is being detected:
- Press Win + P and try switching between display modes.
- Go to Settings → System → Display and check if your laptop screen is listed.
- If it appears, select it and click Extend or Duplicate display to see if it responds.
2. Update the BIOS
A BIOS update can resolve display-related firmware issues. To update:
- Visit the HP Software & Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your laptop model (OMEN 16-b1000).
- Look for the latest BIOS update, download it, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Restart your laptop after the update completes.
3. Install Device Drivers and Firmware Updates
Reinstall Display Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters, right-click on your GPU (Intel UHD/NVIDIA RTX), and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop—Windows will automatically reinstall the default drivers.
- Alternatively, you can download the latest graphics drivers from the HP website.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- In Device Manager, check if there are any warnings under Firmware.
- Update any outdated firmware from the HP Support page.
4. Install Windows Updates
Ensure your Windows version is fully updated:
- Go to Settings → Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
- Restart your laptop after the updates are installed.
Let me know if this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
