Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that there is support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's.

The service manual is for your notebook's model series.
The 15-en0xxx model series NVMe SSD slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.
While a Gen 4 SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds.
The most speed you will get out of a Gen 3 SSD slot is in the vicinity of 3,500 MBPS.

If it has memory chips on both sides of the circuit board, it won't fit.
You have to use a single sided NVMe SSD.
If it is a single sided NVMe SSD as most of them are, then I wouldn't know why it is not installing correctly.
