OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I was wondering if I can use liquid metal thermal paste on my laptop. The laptop I have is this, OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc0xxx. They use liquid metal thermal paste on the new x2s model and i was wondering if i can use it on my model too as it would drop my thermals about 15-20 as they say. Please let me know if you need more information about my laptops model, thank you.

Hello again @George-mk

Just so you know for future requests on the forum, your model number is Omen by HP 15-dc0008ng.

Please use that number, not dc0xxx.

I never received an answer about your other query on the keyboard lighting from HP.

Did you ever get the zones to reset?

As far as your heat-sink goes, its all copper and of course HP does not recommend changing to liquid metal for those systems. But If you decide to anyway, check with the mfg of the thermal compound to see how it will react with copper. NOTE that you can void your warranty switching to liquid metal. Liquid metal is not so simple to use as regular thermal paste, so do your homework first and do so at your own risk.

Thank you for your answer! First of all now the lighting is still the same even the latest update of bios 0.9 but it's ok for me, it works not the colors they should be but still working.

About the liquid paste could you contact hp and ask them if it could be used based on my model? If they say that its ok to use i would give it a try, if there is any possibility i won't risk it! Still i have seen that even basic models can use that with no problems and works better. What's ur opinion tho? Thank you for your time!

There is most likely a physical problem with the keyboard. I highly suggest you contact HP Support for further help with getting that fixed first and foremost. You said you bought it back in Sept, so you don't have much time left on your warranty!!!  Don't wait.

While you are chatting with HP Support, ask them about the Thermal paste. You can request that they re-paste it for you.

You can ask them at that time about Liquid Thermal Paste. They will tell you as I have, that they will not advocate you installing it. If they are willing to it for you themselves, then you are golden. 😉

Sadly my warranty expired before 2 or 3 days 😕 it's ok I guess with the keyboard lights,

But I would like to know I fi can use the liquid paste on this laptop as its getting too hot and that would be a good idea if I can use it

You said in another thread that it was purchased back in Sept. I assume its only 10 months on the warranty?

Is this true or did you purchase in July or prior last year?

If your warranty is actually still good, I can have a Rep contact you.

Ive already answered about the liquid paste. YOU need to ask the MFG of what ever paste you are going to use, if they say its safe for Copper Heat sinks. Usually they will say its ok. But you need to educate yourself on how to apply it. Thats all I can say on that subject.

I bought it End of July or early on August from amazon so I received a bit later about 2 weeks later. Now it says that the warranty is expired 😕

i saw this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8dS4NlfrQc&feature=share&fbclid=IwAR3GafOYXSZ5pt5odaxM6SSLlHe5gLT85... which i think has the same laptop with me and used liquid paste and it worked fine, thank for your help anyway 🙂
