Hello there!

I'm currently thinking on buying a Solid State Unit for my HP Omen 15-dc0003la Laptop.

 

My question is if there is a limit on how "big" can the unit be. All I've seen is people getting up to 512gb on their M.2 units, but I was hoping to buy a 1TB M.2. 

I would like to know if there would be any problem, or if my laptop can "handle" a 1TB M.2 unit.

A 1 TB M.2 drive should be fine.

 

The two NVMe drive sizes listed in the service manual are just what HP offered in the model series.

 

OMEN by HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

 

If you look under the dual storage configuration section, they offered a 1 TB NVMe drive + a 2 TB 2.5" drive.

 It says that for dual storage configuration it reccomends "1 TB NVMe drive + a 2 TB 2.5" drive".

 

I currently have a 1TB 2.5 drive. If I wanted to add a 1TB NVMe Drive, I must also upgrade my 2.5 drive to a 2TB one, or is it okay to stay with my 1TB 2.5 drive?

You would be just fine with the 1 TB NVMe drive + your existing 2.5" drive.

 

You will need to remove Windows from the 2.5" drive, or the notebook will always want to boot from the SATA drive first.

 

Dual drive configurations from the factory have the operating system on the M.2 SSD, and nothing on the 2.5" drive.
