Hello, community,
I recently bought an Omen 15, model dh0028nl, this is my first gaming laptop so I don't have any other similar device experience to compare with.
So, getting to the point, the battery of my omen depletes REALLY fast. For example, after a 40 minutes long League of Legends' match, my battery went from ~80% to ~10%... Another example, I did a ~30-minute watch on amazon prime video with Bluetooth headphones connected and my battery went from ~95% to ~65%... I didn't touch the power saving settings since the first start, now I'm starting to monitor my battery in a more accurate way, what do you think? Is this a normal behaviour for this kind of laptops? Or is my battery defective?
Thank you very much in advance!

@Haraden. I'm not an HP agent nor an expert, but I can share some info from what I've seen. Looks like your model has a RTX 2060 GPU, which will use a little more power than my model which has a GTX 1660 ti. One time with the battery charged to100% and plugged in I had a way to monitor the power consumption through the AC outlet. When I was doing a GPU bench marking test the power consumption climbed up to around 120W during portions of the test. The laptop has a 70Wh battery. This tells me that while running GPU intensive games the battery life is going to be miserable (and I suspect this is true for all gaming laptops running GPU intensive games). Now on mine, while on battery I'm having a problem where the GPU is throttled way back (almost a 75% reduction in FPS), and I haven't tried to address that yet. Someone else had a similar issue and updating the drivers helped, which I haven't yet tried to do.
Regarding casual use...... like browsing or watching a video..... On Omen laptops that have Nvidia GPUs above the GTX 1650, like yours and mine, there is no way to enable the Intel integrated GPU (UHD 630), and there is no Optimus . So for casual use the battery life will suffer compared to designs that support Optimus. Just during idle the GTX 1660 ti uses about 10W more power than if instead switched over to the iGPU.
You might find some settings that you can adjust. On mine, just having the Omen Command Center program open adds almost 10W of power consumption for some reason. Also, if you're using the back lit keyboard, I find that if I take it to max brightness the consumption is around 7W higher, but if I lower the brightness even a little bit the consumption quickly goes down a lot. I also try to avoid display brightness over 60% while on battery. On mine, if I'm just browsing etc I'm generally able to get over 3 hours or more without being ultra careful about it. I feel like I could get more if I really tried. Yours may be a little worse due to the RTX 2060. Regarding Optimus, it seems like some people hate it and are really glad not to have it. For me, I wish I had the option.
