hi I have a omen 16 2023 16-wf0876no gaming laptop and have just upgraded the ram to x16 DDR5 5600, total 32gb however the laptop reports it’s running at 4800, why is this?, the manual says either 4800 ram or 5600 ram. It is a i7 13700k processor. Also is 32gb the highest ram it can take?
thank you for your help

Hi:
The product specs for your notebook indicate that it came with DDR5-4800 MHz memory.
OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-wf0876no | HP® South Africa (bingj.com)
DRR5-5600 memory will work fine, but it will bridge to 4800 MHz because that is the fastest speed your notebook's Intel Core™ i7-13700HX processor can run the memory at.
The memory speed information can be found by looking up the processor specs on the Intel website.
Intel Core i713700HX Processor 30M Cache up to 5.00 GHz Product Specifications
The Intel specs also indicate that the processor can support up to 128 GB of memory.
As you posted, chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 16 GB.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
The Crucial memory report for the model series indicates that it will support up to 2 x 32 GB of DDR5 memory.
HP - Compaq HP OMEN 16-wf0000 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com
So, with all of that differing information, the only suggestion I can offer, would be to run this command to see how much memory your notebook can support:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

You're very welcome.
Yes, that is correct.
Since the processor can only run DDR5 memory at a max speed of 4800 MHz, any DDR5 memory that you install that is faster than 4800 MHz will automatically bridge to 4800 MHz.
I don't know why HP even mentioned a DDR5-5600/DDR5-5200 MHz option in the manual, which would also have led me to believe that the memory should run at 5600 MHz too.
How they should have written the memory upgrade information is how they wrote the memory upgrade information like in this manual:
Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion Gaming 15 Laptop PC
DDR4-2400 dual channel support (DDR4-3200 bridge to DDR4-2666, DDR4-2666 downgrade to DDR4-2400)
And even that is not exactly correct.
In this model series DDR4-3200 memory does not stop bridging at 2666 MHz.
It bridges to 2400 MHz.
So, it should have been written like this:
DDR4-2400 dual channel support (DDR4-3200 bridge to DDR4-2400, DDR4-2666 bridge to DDR4-2400)
And your notebook's service manual memory info should have been written like this:
DDR5-4800 dual channel support, DDR5-5600 bridge to DDR5-4800, DDR5-5200 bridge to DDR5-4800)
Then most folks would understand that you can install the faster speeds of memory, but they are only going to run at 4800 MHz.
