Hello,
I’m experiencing an issue with my HP Omen 16 laptop—it’s not charging properly. When plugged in, the battery doesn’t increase in charge, but it maintains its current level.
The battery passed the test without any issues and adapter is not found. (but still maintains the battery in life so it is working.)
Occasionally, the laptop does begin charging normally, but most of the time, I receive a “low sector power” message.
Nothing has changed in terms of how or where I’m using it, so I’m not sure what’s causing this. Does anyone know a potential fix or if there’s something I can reboot to resolve this?
Thank you!

Hi @Lioto20,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand the issues with your HP Omen 16 laptop could be related to the adapter, charging circuitry, or software settings. Here's a detailed troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
Steps to troubleshoot the battery issue:
1. Inspect the Power Adapter and Connection
- Check for physical damage: Inspect the adapter cable and connector for signs of wear or damage.
- Test a different adapter: If possible, borrow or test with another HP-compatible charger to rule out adapter failure.
- Secure connection: Ensure the adapter is firmly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet.
2. Battery and Adapter Diagnostics
- Run HP Support Assistant Diagnostics:
- Open the HP Support Assistant application.
- Navigate to "Troubleshooting and Fixes" > "Battery and Power."
- Run the diagnostics for both the battery and adapter.
- If the adapter is still not detected but the battery holds its charge, the issue may lie with the charging port or circuitry.
3. Reset the Battery and Power System
- Perform a power reset:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and any peripherals.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds to reset the power system.
- Reconnect the charger and turn on the laptop.
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
- BIOS Update:
- Visit the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop’s serial number or model.
- Check for a BIOS update and install it if available.
- Driver Update:
- Update the "Battery Management" and "ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" drivers in Device Manager.
5. Check Windows Power Settings
- Adjust power plans:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select "Balanced" or "High Performance."
- Battery threshold settings:
- Some laptops have a feature to stop charging once the battery reaches a certain percentage. Check the HP Omen Gaming Hub or other management software to adjust this.
6. Hardware Check
- If the issue persists:
- The charging port or power delivery circuit on the motherboard could be faulty.
- Contact HP Support to diagnose and potentially replace hardware components.
7. Temporary Workarounds
- Use the laptop on AC power directly while keeping an eye on the battery level.
- If charging occasionally works, try unplugging and reconnecting the adapter at different intervals to encourage charging.
