Hi @Discombobule,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that you were initially experiencing display flickering issues with your Omen PC, but now the system is not powering on at all. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to identify the issue and find a resolution.

Please let me know, have you noticed any indicator lights or sounds when attempting to turn it on? Also, have there been any recent power fluctuations or hardware changes?

Let's try performing a BIOS restore on the PC while keeping the charger plugged in. This can help resolve power-related issues and potentially get the system to turn on. Please follow these steps and let me know if you notice any changes:

BIOS Restore:

1) Shutdown the computer, keep the  charger plugged

2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B button until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow on-screen instructions and click on OK

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am having a very similar issue. I randomly get a black screen, there is no more light on the keyboard, e.g. power button, but I can hear that it's still working. This occured several times when I was running Android Studio, but that might be unrelated. After some time I found that the laptop was working again. Today when it happend again, I tried to see what happens when I connect an external screen (TV). Suddenly the screen and keyboard light started to work normally again. I would be interested if you can reproduce this as well.

Hi @Utsch34,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Omen laptop's display is turning off randomly, but the system itself is still running. The fact that an external display fixes the issue suggests that the problem may be related to the internal display, drivers, or power settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the PC completely
  • Unplug the power cable (or remove the battery if it's a laptop)
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
  • Reconnect power and turn it on

This resets the system and can clear any power-related issues.

2. Test with an External Display

  • Connect an external monitor or TV via HDMI/DisplayPort
  • If the external display works, your laptop screen or cable may be faulty
  • If both screens stay black, move to the next step

3. Update Graphics Drivers

Since you're running an Omen PC, it's likely using NVIDIA or AMD graphics.

  1. Boot into Safe Mode (if needed):
    • Force shutdown 3 times during boot until Advanced Startup appears
    • Go to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart
    • Select Safe Mode with Networking
  2. Update GPU drivers:
    • Press Win + X → Device Manager
    • Expand Display Adapters
    • Right-click your GPU (NVIDIA/AMD) → Select Update Driver
    • If the issue started after an update, select Roll Back Driver
  3. Manually reinstall drivers:
    • Go to the NVIDIA or AMD website
    • Download the latest driver for your GPU
    • Install using the "Clean Install" option

4. Check for Windows & BIOS Updates

  • Open Settings → Windows Update → Check for Updates
  • Go to the HP Support website and update your BIOS and chipset drivers

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
