About 1.5 months ago, I updated all the drivers on my laptop through the HP Support system, including BIOS updates. Since then, I keep seeing the warning message in the Gaming Hub:
"System performance has been temporarily limited due to high temperature. Performance will be automatically adjusted back once heat level has been reduced."
even when my laptop is only at 70°C. As a result, my FPS constantly drops in games. It feels like the Gaming Hub is limiting performance through software. Previously, even if my laptop got very hot, I could set the fans to maximum power, and there would be no FPS drops or this warning.
I have tried everything—I deleted all files, reinstalled Gaming Hub, and even removed omencap from the files, but the issue persists. The same warning keeps appearing.
Please help.

@barcougur, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query.
It sounds like the issue might be related to the recent BIOS or driver updates that were performed, especially if the problem only started happening afterward. The warning about the high temperature suggests thermal throttling, but since your temperature (70°C) is well within the normal operating range for a gaming laptop, it’s likely a software or configuration issue.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
Check Temperature with Other Tools
- Ensure that the temperature is indeed not higher than expected and to confirm the reliability of the readings.
Revert BIOS to Previous Version
- A BIOS update can affect the way thermal management is handled.
- Go to the HP support site and download the BIOS version you had before the update. If you can't find the previous version, you can try downgrading to the same version again, as it may be corrupted.
- Download and install the previous BIOS version.
- Follow HP's instructions carefully to reinstall or roll back the BIOS.
Check Power Plan Settings
- Windows power plans or HP-specific power settings can influence thermal and performance limits.
- Make sure your laptop is set to the High-Performance power plan.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.
- If you see an HP-specific power plan (like HP Performance), try switching to it or adjust the settings for maximum performance.
Disable Turbo Mode or Dynamic Frequency Scaling in BIOS
- Some laptops throttle performance when they reach a certain temperature, and these settings in BIOS may influence that behavior.
- Check BIOS settings for any options related to Turbo Mode or Dynamic Frequency Scaling. Disable them and see if that prevents throttling without the need for excessive cooling.
- Access BIOS settings during boot by pressing the ESC or F10 key.

Test with Different Fan Profiles
- Gaming laptops have different fan speed profiles that adjust based on temperature. It's possible that the fan profile was reset or altered during updates.
- Open HP Command Center (or whatever software controls fan profiles) and try switching between different cooling modes (such as Performance, Balanced, or Quiet).
- Ensure that your fan speed is set to maximum if you are running resource-intensive games.
Update/Reinstall Graphics Drivers
- There may be an issue with the GPU drivers that are causing the FPS drop and throttling.
- Use the Device Manager to uninstall your current graphics drivers and reinstall the latest version from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel (depending on your GPU).
- Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters, right-click your GPU, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart your laptop and download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
Check Thermal Paste and Cooling System
- If the thermal paste has dried out or your cooling system is failing, it can lead to thermal throttling even at lower temperatures.
- If you're comfortable, you could open the laptop and inspect the thermal paste or take it for cleaning and reapplying thermal paste. Otherwise, monitor fan speed and ensure the laptop’s air vents aren’t blocked.
Reinstall or Update HP Gaming Hub
- Since you’ve reinstalled it once, there might still be residual corrupted files, or the software could have bugs.
- Try completely uninstalling the HP Gaming Hub (via Control Panel > Uninstall Programs), then download the latest version from the official HP website and install it again.
- After reinstalling, disable or toggle off any automatic performance management features (such as auto-throttling) in the Gaming Hub.

System File Check
- Sometimes, system corruption from driver updates or installations can cause issues like this.
- Run the SFC (System File Checker) scan to repair corrupted system files.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
- Let the scan run and fix any detected issues.
Check for Background Processes
- Background processes can put a load on your CPU or GPU, affecting performance.
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and look for high-CPU processes. Disable or close unnecessary programs that could be consuming resources.
Check for Windows Updates
- Sometimes Windows updates, especially related to hardware or performance, can resolve issues.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and make sure everything is up to date.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
