HP Omen
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello,

I van an Omen Laptop and I do no not use it for gaming. I purchased the high performance laptop specifially for running my Avid Video Editing software program. I have noticed lately that it runs pretty hot with the fans constantly running, and recently the screen shut down. I force it to shut down and let it cool, then restart it and all seems fine. Is there some setting that I should select to prevent this from happening? Thanks in advance.

Hi @moses6666,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Omen laptop is experiencing overheating issues, which can be common when running intensive programs like Avid Video Editing software, even if you're not gaming. Here are a few steps you can take to help prevent this from happening.

  • Clean the vents: Dust and debris can accumulate in the vents, blocking airflow and causing the laptop to overheat. Use a can of compressed air to carefully clean out the vents.
  • Elevate the laptop: Using a laptop stand or even just propping up the back of the laptop slightly can improve airflow and cooling.
  • Adjust power settings: You can adjust the power settings in your laptop's control panel to prioritize cooling. Look for power management settings that allow you to set the maximum processor state to less than 100%. This will reduce the amount of heat generated by the processor, but it may also slightly reduce performance.
  • Update drivers and BIOS: Make sure you have the latest drivers and BIOS updates installed for your laptop. Sometimes, HP releases updates that improve cooling performance or fix issues related to overheating.
  • Check for background processes: Make sure there aren't any unnecessary programs or processes running in the background that could be putting additional strain on your laptop's resources.
  • Consider additional cooling: If your laptop continues to overheat despite these measures, you might consider investing in a laptop cooling pad or external fan to provide additional cooling.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
