This worked and fixed tghe screen brightgness after installing other windows updates.  Thanks, Lettemai. 

 

HP support was **bleep**ing brutal with this and essentially useless.  "Did you reinstall windows?"  How about **bleep** you, the laptop is a day old you dumb **bleep**.
