HP Omen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am unable to open the omen command center app. I've tried repair/reset and uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Either the app directly or using the command button I get the following error message 'parameter is incorrect'

HP support even remotely tried to fix it and they weren't able to find a solution.  Anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks!

Hello @ParagonTattoo

What is the full Product ID number of your Omen?

You can find it in the HP Support Assistant. Select your PC in the support assistant. A new page opens and you will find the product ID there.

When you say repair/reset, did you mean you uninstalled/reinstalled the app, or did you reinstall Windows?

Hello @Photoray002 It is an HP Omen 15-dc0001na Product ID 3ZV24EA I first tried repair and reset in the app itself then uninstalling/reinstalling with no luck. I contacted HP and they remoted onto the laptop, they tried a few things (apologies they were trying a lot of things I couldn't keep up with). Still no go. So they advised to try and full reset of the laptop which would then reinstall windows 10. Did that...still having the same issue with the command centre, still getting 'parameter is incorrect' and wont allow me to use any of its functions. Have you come across anything like this before? This one is new to me and I'm stumped

OK Thanks.

I'm guessing the method to reset was via Windows Update>Recovery>Reset this PC.

HP recommends that method now, but Ive yet to see it work completely without issues on an "Omen".

I end up having users do a clean install with either the HP Recovery Partition, or the MS Media Creation Tool.

The Parameters issue is rather new to me also, not sure the exact cause of it.

Im assuming you still have Windows 10 Home version, not upgraded to Pro, correct?

Let me know before I continue.

Indeed that's is the method I used to reset it.

And also yes again, it is indeed the home version.

I've heard of it with regards to printers or using an external hard drive, but this is the first instance I can see regarding an app.

Just let me know if you need any more info, appreciate any help you can provide on this one

Thanks

I think you're going to have to clean reinstall Windows via an 8GB USB and the Create media Windows 10 tool.

But before you do, try this...

  • Make sure your bios is up to date. Should be BIOS Version: F.09 sp97145.exe
  • Then reboot and install the OMEN Command Center SDK Package: sp98588.exe
  • Uninstall and reinstall the OCC with this link... Get OMEN Command Center - Microsoft Store
  • Then go to Windows updates and force it to check for updates. Press the Check for Updates button even if it shows its up to date. Do this a couple of times. If it does update, reboot.
  • Make sure in Services, HP Omen HSA Service is set to Running - Automatic.

Does that make any difference? If not, I think as I said before, you will need to clean install Windows.

If you do, install it as a Custom installation and delete all the partitions first, then let it continue to install.

I tried the process you suggested in regards to updating the BIOS.  Went through all the steps.....unfortunately the issue persists.

If I try to click on the app, nothing happens at all.  If I press the OCC button I get the parameter is incorrect (I've notice this only seems to happen when I press the OCC button, so i'm wondering if this error message is just related to that function.  As the app is failing to load the button function is also trying to load this and giving this error, of course I might just be speaking rubbish).

I've noticed that it does appear on task manager as running in the background, please see screenshot below.  Does this shine any light on the matter? Or is reinstall the only option now?  Thanks PBackground.PNG

Unfortunately it does not. Its got a weird glitch that I have no idea why, seems something is corrupted in the system. Only the Software team could figure that out if several people start having this also. In the mean time, the only way I know to solve this is to clean reinstall the OS. I'm sorry.

If you do clean install the OS, update windows afterward by forcing it. Then install the OCC from the MS app, then install the OMEN SDK package I gave above and then force Windows to check for updates again. Do this before installing any 3rd party security software or games.

If it still doesn't work, You have something really odd ball that Ive never encountered before.

I though it was going to something unusual, as when I was looking around for a solution and I couldn't find any mention of this error.

I will try this and see what happens, I've looked up how to do this and it seems fairly straightforward but I haven't done anything like that before.  Are there any risks involved?

Thank you again, I really do appreciate the time you've put in to try and find a solution

The only risk is that it will wipe the drive and you will lose any current data on it, unless you've been backing it up on an external drive or the cloud. So if you have any documents or photos you need to keep, back them up first. Programs like games you've installed will have to be reinstalled afterward also. So it can be a little time consuming to get it all up the way you had it.

Here is a basic set of instructions you can use if you want...

You will need a blank 8GB (8 to 32 GB will work) USB pen drive (USB-3 drive will be faster).

From another computer, download the MS Media Creation Tool and run it with the USB drive connected... Create media Windows 10

When prompted, accept the Terms and Agreements.

Next, choose Create installation media.

MS TOOL 01.JPG

Next, uncheck the box for Use recommended. Make sure the Language is correct and the Edition is Windows 10, 64-bit.

MS TOOL 02.JPG

Next, choose USB flash drive.

MS TOOL 03.JPG

Your USB drive should show in the list. If so, click Next.

Windows will begin downloading the files and create the installer . This will take a while.

When its done, you will see a message stating that its ready. Click the Finish button.

To install Windows to the OMEN...

  1. Make sure the laptop is plugged in to the Power Cord.
  2. Insert the USB installer you just made.
  3. Press the power button and begin rapidly tapping the ESC key for the Options menu.
  4. Choose the F9 key for Boot Device Options.
  5. You should see your USB drive in the list. You will probably see it listed two times. Choose the one with UEFI in the title.
TIP: If it is having issues with the UEFI version, then choose the non UEFI USB version. IF its not showing at all in the list, you will have to go into the bios (F10 at reboot) and turn off Secure Boot and enable Legacy mode, but this most likely wont happen.
  6. A blue screen should open with the install options. Make sure the options are correct for Language, keyboard, etc.
  7. Click Next and then click Install Now.
  8. Accept the License Terms and click Next.
  9. Choose CUSTOM, then click on each Drive item to highlight it and Delete them. Do this for all of them. Then click Next.

Let Windows do its thing and install Windows. When its finished, it will prompt you to create your account and add your WiFi information. Go ahead and set it up. When Windows connects to the internet, it will automatically activate itself.

Go to Windows Updates and click the Check for Updates button and make Windows run any updates that it needs.

Do not install anything other than the Windows updates. Go to the MS page and install the Omen Command Center.

Get HP Command Center - Microsoft Store

Then install... OMEN Command Center SDK Package sp98588.exe

HP System Event Utility sp88257.exe

HP Support Assistant sp95226.exe  (Support Assistant is Optional and can be done later)

Then go back to Windows updates and force it to check for updates again, even if it shows its up to date. Do this a couple of times and reboot after any updates.

Keeping fingers crossed. 🙂
