I have for a few years now had a misfit on the case of my Omen laptop. I had a fan noise that precipitated my opening the candle to blow it out and low in behold the battery cell was so swollen that it was pushing the lower part of the laptop case out. I have to assume this is a bad thing. What are my options?

Your only option is to replace your battery ASAP -it has become a serious safety/performance liability.
