Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d1 (53F49AV)

I recently bought a HP Victus 16-1069tx a few months ago. Through these few months, I have been playing quite low end games and running low end applications. Today, I bought a more heavy game which was Elden Ring.

The recommended system requirements is as follows (From Steam):

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • Processor: INTEL CORE I7-8700K or AMD RYZEN 5 3600X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1070 8 GB or AMD RADEON RX VEGA 56 8 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12

However, I am pretty sure (correct if I am wrong) that my laptop specs should be more than enough to run this game but I was unable to keep a steady 60 fps. Instead, it would have huge spikes and also quite frequently despite my computer being charged and setting all power modes to Performance mode.

My specs are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Processor: INTEL CORE I5-12500H
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM (2 PIECES OF DDR5 8GB 4800MHZ RAM, I added an extra RAM myself)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX3050

Furthermore, I have seen people online using the same laptop to run the same game, they were getting a steady 60fps. So, I was wondering what the issue was.

To anyone who replies, I want to thank you in advance for sparing some of your time to help me.

Hi @wjoo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing performance issues with your Victus by HP 16.1 inch gaming laptop, despite having sufficient hardware, there could be several factors at play. Here are a few possible reasons and troubleshooting steps you can take.

  • Overheating: High-performance laptops can generate a significant amount of heat during intensive tasks, which can lead to throttling and decreased performance. Ensure that the laptop's cooling system is functioning properly by checking the fan vents for dust or debris and using it on a flat, hard surface to allow for proper airflow.
  • Power settings: Check your power settings to ensure that the laptop is set to "High Performance" mode, which allows the hardware to run at its maximum capabilities. You can adjust the power settings by going to the Control Panel or the Windows settings.
  • Background processes: It's possible that certain applications or processes running in the background are consuming system resources and affecting performance. Use the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to identify any resource-intensive processes and close them if they are not essential.
  • Driver issues: Outdated or incompatible drivers can hinder performance. Visit the official HP website and make sure all your drivers, including graphics, chipset, and audio, are up to date. Alternatively, you can use HP's support assistant software to automatically check for and install updates.
  • Malware or viruses: Malicious software can significantly impact system performance. Run a full system scan using a reliable antivirus program to detect and remove any potential threats.
  • Disk fragmentation: Over time, files on the hard drive can become fragmented, leading to slower performance. Use the built-in Windows Disk Defragmenter tool to optimize the hard drive and improve overall system responsiveness.
  • System resource monitoring: Keep an eye on your CPU, GPU, and RAM usage using tools like Task Manager This will help you identify if any particular component is being overloaded during gaming or other resource-intensive tasks.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
