My HP Victus laptop experiences severe performance issues whenever it is connected to the charger. While running on battery, the CPU generally operates around 2.0 GHz and the system performs normally. However, as soon as I plug in the charger, the CPU frequency suddenly drops to approximately 0.45 GHz, causing significant lag and making the laptop almost unusable.

The issue affects normal tasks such as web browsing, file management, and general system usage. The problem occurs consistently whenever the charger is connected. I have already updated the BIOS, but the issue still persists.

I request HP support to investigate this charging-related performance problem and provide a solution.

Hi  @ShubhSahu,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to see your laptop slow down when it’s plugged in. Thank you for sharing the details about the CPU frequency drop  that’s very helpful in narrowing down the issue.

  • Could you please confirm the exact model number of your HP Victus laptop ?
  • Does the issue occur with any charger, or only with the one you’re currently using?
  • Have you noticed if the laptop gets unusually warm when plugged in?
  • Does the problem persist even if you change the Windows power plan (e.g., Balanced vs. High Performance)?

Here are a few  steps you can try :

1.Check Power Settings in BIOS/Windows: Ensure that the CPU power management isn’t limiting performance when on AC power.

2. Update Chipset & Graphics Drivers: Outdated drivers can sometimes cause throttling when switching between battery and AC modes.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics: Restart the laptop and press F2 to run system diagnostics, especially the power and thermal tests.

4. Test with Another Charger: If possible, try a different compatible HP charger to rule out a faulty adapter.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
