The laptop in question is my OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 IDS Base Model, 2021. In all honesty, I did not realize my windows update had the option of downloading preview updates enabled. It's currently shut off now.  After I installed the preview update KB5077241, my GPU and display drivers started to create critical errors. My external monitor would stop displaying information, go black, and then indicate that it is not connected. Then my main laptop screen would turn on.  This problem seems to trigger when the GPU is under load, such as playing a demanding GPU and CPU game.  I have done the Windows 11, version 25H2 (repair version), did the DSIM/Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth and SFC /Sacnnow options in the command prompt under administrator.  I am trying to update the drivers from HP Support but I have Windows 11 version 25H2 and HP support has not caught up as of yet.  I think the older versions will help but I'm not sure if that will work. Please advise. Thank you.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Just run system restore pointed that is dated before you did that windows update

Well, that could possibly work. However, I have information that I have not saved to a new restore point before that problem. I could just easily save that work to an external ssd before using the restore point. But, to be honest with you I am not sure it will work entirely. I have tired other ways of fixing this problem, even removing the update itself but the problem is much deeper. Venom, have you encountered this problem as well (or something similar to it) and that was your solution? I appreciate your assistance.

One other question if I may. My laptop is going on 5 years old. Would you suggest a removal and reapply of new thermal paste for the CPU, GPU and heat sinks on the motherboard?

Thank you.

Windows sometime automatically create restore point so you can check it. I haven't experienced similar issue but it should work if caused by windows update.

If temps are rising while gaming like it always stays near 90°C then you clean fans, air vents and replace old thermal paste with good one like Arctic MX-6 or PTM7950. As for thermal pads and putty, you can replace them with good putty if existing one is worn out.

Well, I went to see about that restore point and I come to find out that System Restore has been shut off.  I never touched it or inadvertently did so. Well, now my only option is to wait until March 10th until Microsoft releases the full version to fix these problems.

You can also try clean install gpu driver using ddu

DDU is one of the options I have not tried, even though it was indicated numerous times to use it through HP Support. Would this website: wagnardsoft.com be a good site to download DDU?

Yes
