OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-c0000 (343L4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

HP Omen 16 Laptops have problems with games using RE Engine (Monster Hunter Rise, Devil May Cry 5, Street Fighter 6 etc.) where the computer just crashes entirely and reboots. There are no problems with temperatures or anything. Using the drivers provided by HP works, but they are so old that they have issues with newer games. This issue occurs when using the updated drivers from AMD website itself. Can HP update the drivers?

Bump. This problem occurs on both Windows 10 and 11

Hi @iiuitto,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which version of the AMD drivers are you currently using from the AMD website?
  • Do the crashes happen consistently at launch, or only after some time in-game?
  • Have you noticed if the issue occurs only with RE Engine titles, or does it affect other games too?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Clean driver installation: Use AMD’s cleanup utility to fully remove existing drivers before reinstalling either the HP-provided drivers for the latest AMD driver.
  • BIOS and chipset updates: Check HP Support for the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your Omen 16, as these can improve compatibility with newer GPU drivers.
  • Windows updates: Ensure your system is fully updated, including optional updates, as these sometimes include fixes for hardware compatibility.
  • Disable hybrid graphics (if applicable): In BIOS or Omen Gaming Hub, try forcing the system to use only the dedicated GPU to see if stability improves.
  • Event Viewer logs: After a crash, check Windows Event Viewer for critical errors under “System”  this can help pinpoint whether it’s a driver, hardware, or OS-level issue.

I hope this helps.

Hello, thanks for answering. Let me answer your questions:

Currently, I'm using the latest 26.1.1 but I have been trying for years so I have used many older version too and they still don't work.

Crashes depends on game. For example Monster Hunter Rise crashes usually after when I select my and it starts loading. Devil May Cry 5 is completely random but very rare. Street Fighter 6 has no problem with the player match stuff but instantly crashed when I enter World Tour mode.

Yes, this issue only and only happens on RE Engine games aside from the newest title using it: Monster Hunter Wilds. I have played hundreds and hundreds of different games on this laptop and never had a problem like this.

I have tried reinstalling drivers many times, trying different versions. As I said, only drivers provided by HP works but they are so old that I have problems with other games such as Monster Hunter Wilds refusing to launch asking me to upgrade my drivers.

I always update my BIOS and chipset drivers if they are available but to no avail.

Both my Windows 10 and 11 is usually updated unless I hear Microsoft messing some stuff again as always.

I have tried using both GPUs but same problem still occurs.

I will install the game and check the event viewer.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi @iiuitto,

Thanks for your response.

I completely understand how this must be for you especially since the issue only affects RE Engine games while everything else runs smoothly on your HP Omen 16. You’ve already done a lot of the right troubleshooting steps, so thank you for being so thorough. Let’s try a few additional checks that may help narrow this down:

  • Clean Driver Installation
Even though you’ve tried multiple driver versions, sometimes remnants of old drivers can cause conflicts. then reinstall the latest AMD/NVIDIA drivers directly from HP official website https://support.hp.com/
  • Disable Overlays
Game overlays (HP Omen Gaming Hub, Steam, Discord, Radeon/NVIDIA overlays) sometimes conflict with RE Engine. Try disabling them temporarily to see if stability improves.
  • Check Event Viewer & Reliability Monitor
Since you mentioned you’ll check Event Viewer, also look at Reliability Monitor (type “Reliability Monitor” in Windows search). It often gives clearer crash logs that point to the faulting module.
  • Windows Graphics Settings
In Settings → System → Display → Graphics, manually assign RE Engine games to run on either the integrated GPU or the discrete GPU. Even though you’ve tested both, forcing the assignment sometimes resolves conflicts.
  • Test with Clean Boot
Boot Windows with only essential services running (disable third-party startup apps). This helps rule out background conflicts

    I hope this helps.

I have these on event viewer and reliability monitor. Can I somehow upload them here so you can check for more? Also I have tried other stuff you mentioned. The only thing that works is using drivers provided by HP but as I said, they are from 2023 and very old. I have problems playing newer games with that.

Hi @iiuitto,

Thanks for your response.

I understand how frustrating this must be for you especially when newer games struggle to run smoothly because of outdated drivers. Thank you for sharing the details about the Event Viewer logs and the kernel power error. Unfortunately, I don’t have the ability to directly receive or analyze uploaded event logs here, To get you the best assistance, we need to take this conversation to a private chat.
