A few weeks ago I was at a friend's house playing some games and I noticed that my r key wasn't working. I figured that my laptop just needed a restart so I ignored it. I normally use an external keyboard so I didn't notice it again until I was playing with my laptop keyboard again. After some research, it sounds like this laptop is notorious for this issue. I've tried all the fixes like restarting, uninstalling drivers, etc but nothing fixes the problem. Anyone know if HP actually ever did anything about this or what I can do to remedy this?
Honestly, pretty sad especially since I've had an SSD go out and a power brick malfunction with this laptop. I'll be looking into a laptop brand that actually cares next time.
Thanks in advanced!

Hello @esearle
It looks like you are using a BIOS version (F.16) that was released for a short time and then withdrawn by HP ?
Latest official BIOS version is F.13 Rev.A
If the problem never occurs with external keyboard then keyboard controller (mainboard) or notebook keyboard itself is faulty.
HP Warranty valid -> Contact HP Support for service repair
HP warranty expired:
You should have it <serviced> by a professional notebook (chip level) repair store.
Cheap alternative:
Accept the error and live with it.
Good luck

Oh, that's interesting. Maybe I'll go ahead and install that bios version. It was updated when they were trying to find what was going on with my laptop (turned out to be a faulty SSD).
As for the keyboard, I figured as much. I'll probably just live with it and then replace it if I ever sell it.
Thanks again for the help!

You're welcome !
Unfortunately, HP prevents a BIOS downgrade...
Good luck and have fun
