HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1006na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1006na laptop with the stock 8GB RAM. As the specs say that it supports up to 32GB, I plan to installed 2 x 16GB SODIMM modules. Where I'm getting confused is with the Maintenance & Service Guide that says the following -

Supports up to 32 GB maximum system memory in the following conƭigurations -

16 GB (16 GB × 1 or 8 GB × 2)
12 GB (8 GB × 1 + 4 GB × 1)
8 GB (8 GB × 1 or 4 GB × 2)

But there is no mention of a 32GB configuration. This is taken from Page 1 of manual c06446633.pdf.

Can you please clarify the recommended memory configuration for a 32GB upgrade.

Many Thanks

Hi:

No doubt it was an oversight by HP not to include the 2 x 16 GB configuration in the manual.

The notebook supports 2 x 16 GB of memory, and you can confirm that by doing this...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

I recommend this compatible 32 GB crucial memory kit...

Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT2K16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

You can buy this same kit in the UK as well...

Brilliant Paul. Thank you.

Confirmed with wmic and other tools that it supports 32GB. Unfortunately the 16GB Crucial modules are not in stock @Crucial UK so I'll probably need to source them from another reseller such as Amazon.

On a side note, this is seems to be the only HP support channel that works. I've been chasing HP Support on WhatsApp for the last 2 days with the same question and they don't even have the decency to acknowledge let alone answer. And my machine is still on warranty !

Thanks once again. Much appreciated.

You're very welcome.

You can buy two of the single 16 GB DDR4-3200 chips on Amazon.UK.
