OMEN 15-en0000 Laptop PC (1C099AV)

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing persistent FPS drops on my Omen 15 laptop for the past 2 months randomly, ingame.
Despite consistent performance and good FPS (always above 144, the refresh rate of my PC) in games like CS2, FIFA 24, Death Stranding, and Valorant, it frequently drops below 10 FPS for a few seconds (15 sec.), making the games unplayable.

The FPS then recovers with a "fast-forward" motion.

Things I've tried:

  • Clean Windows 11 installation

  • Fan cleaning

  • Thermal paste replacement with Arctic MX-4

  • Disabling fTPM on boot menu

  • Updating all drivers (AMD and NVIDIA) and ensuring all Windows updates are installed.

The problem appears more frequently in "performance mode" of the Omen Gaming Hub. When it happens, temperatures range from 70ºC to 90ºC, and CPU usage seems normal. Also, it happens more frequently in "cut scenes" like celebrating when scoring a goal or death cam in CS.

I recently purchased a new charger for the laptop (original HP 200W, although different form factor, seller assured me it is the same charger), and the issue persists.

If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I am going crazy with this...

PC Specs: Omen 15 (2020), 16GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, Nvidia RTX 2060.

PS: Problem happens even with no internet issues, despite internet drop on recorded video. It was just coincidence.

Hi @DonCast,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken several steps to troubleshoot the issue, which is great. Here are a few additional suggestions you might consider.

  • Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, background processes or applications can cause performance issues. Make sure no unnecessary programs are running in the background while you're gaming. You can use Task Manager to monitor and close any unnecessary processes.
  • Check for Overheating: Although you've replaced the thermal paste and cleaned the fans, it's still worth double-checking if the system is overheating during these FPS drops. You can use monitoring software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to track temperatures and see if they spike during the FPS drops.
  • BIOS Update: Ensure your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Sometimes BIOS updates can improve system stability and performance.
  • Power Management Settings: Check your power management settings to ensure your laptop is set to high performance mode both in the Windows power options and in the Omen Gaming Hub. Sometimes, power-saving features can interfere with performance.
  • Check for Game-Specific Issues: Since you mentioned that the problem occurs more frequently during cutscenes, it's possible that certain in-game events or processes are triggering the FPS drops. Try monitoring FPS drops across different games and scenarios to see if there's a pattern.
  • Graphics Settings: Experiment with lowering graphics settings in your games to see if that helps stabilize FPS. It's possible that certain graphical effects or settings are putting too much strain on your system.
  • Check for Driver Conflicts: Ensure there are no conflicts between different drivers. Sometimes, conflicting drivers can cause performance issues. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling both AMD and NVIDIA drivers to ensure they are installed correctly.
  • Hardware Diagnostic Tests: Consider running hardware diagnostic tests to check for any potential hardware issues. Many laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
