OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wd000 (755F6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello All,

My screen and keyboard are randomly flickering. At times, both go completely blank for a few seconds and then come back, almost like a flashing effect. Sometimes the system works perfectly fine, but at other times it starts flickering with longer blackouts.

I have already run the diagnostics, and everything appears to be normal. Since the issue is intermittent, I'm not sure what is causing it.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on what I should check next? Any advice is appreciated

Laptop age is 2.5 years

Thank you.

Hi @Ank001,

Your Pavilion’s random screen and keyboard flickering, with complete blackouts, is most likely caused by either a failing display cable/connector or unstable graphics driver power management.

  • Check for Hardware Connection Issues:

    • Ensure that all cables and connections between the display and the laptop are secure. Sometimes, physical connection issues can cause flickering screens.

  • Update the Display Driver:

    • Right-click on the Start button and choose Device Manager.
    • Expand the Display adapters category.
    • Right-click on your display adapter and select Update driver.
    • Select 'Search automatically for updated driver software.'
    • Follow the prompts to update the display driver. You may need to restart your computer to complete the installation.

  • Adjust Display Settings:

    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    • Ensure your screen resolution is set to the recommended setting.
    • Check for and adjust the refresh rate settings to a compatible level (typically 60Hz or 75Hz).

  • Check for Windows Updates:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Click 'Check for updates' to ensure your system is running the latest version of Windows with all applicable patches.

  • Perform a Graphics Diagnostic Scan:

    • Use the HP Support Assistant to run a diagnostic test on your graphics hardware. HP Support Assistant can help identify hardware issues and offer solutions.

  • Test with External Display:

    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the flickering persists. If the external monitor does not flicker, the issue might be with the laptop’s screen.

  • Interference Check:

    • Position your laptop away from electronic devices like microwaves and large speakers, which can cause screen interference.

  • System Restore:

    • If this issue started recently, consider performing a system restore to revert your computer settings to a previous date when the screen functioned normally.

Thanks for responding.

  • I had ran the diagnostics and it came out fine.
  • Check the Display drivers and they are up to date.
  • Also checked for updates and there is none pending

I am not sure how how to check hardware connectivity issue ? Do you mean opening the omen laptop?.

Also is there a possibility that this can be due to an 3 year battery.

The most problematic part is it works someday without any blinks or flickers but some days it keeps happening. It's like screen and keyboard light completely goes off and comes back.

Hi @Ank001,

Thank you for getting back.

Since you mentioned the issue is intermittent, please test with an external monitor.

Connect your OMEN to an external display. If the flickering does not occur there, the issue is likely with the laptop’s internal display or cable.

Let me know how it goes.

Based on your description, because both the screen and keyboard are flickering together, I would first suspect a broader system issue rather than just a display problem. Since diagnostics are showing normal results, try checking whether the problem occurs in BIOS, updating graphics/chipset drivers and BIOS, and test with an external monitor. Also monitor temperatures and power behavior because intermittent issues on a 2.5-year-old laptop can sometimes be related to drivers, power delivery, display cable connections, or motherboard-related components. The fact that both devices are affected at the same time is an important clue.

Thank you for taking your time for responding. while waiting I was looking at forum and reddit and got to know about the omen hall sensor issue and users facing the similar problem. I disconnected the hall sensor and it now works fine without any issue.
