I purchased my envy x360 a few months and until recently its been able to play games such as gta v and csgo at a minimum of 60 fps on medium-high settings. A few days a go I was getting only 10 fps on the same settings I've been using for months.
This is happening on all games and I have not changed any of the in game settings. I also tried running the games on lower settings and still only get around 20 fps or 30 fps.
I know this can be a sign of overheating, but my laptop is not getting hot and remains at normal temperatures. I plug in while gaming and I am not running multiple programs in the background while I play. I have updated to all the latest drivers and am still getting the same problem.

Hi @Trixsters,
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! Good day! I reviewed the post about a drop in FPS when games are played. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb effort and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Does it happen when the charger is disconnected or also when it is plugged in?
- Is it a recent occurrence? Did it happen after a windows or software update?
- Did you try any troubleshooting?
- Please provide the complete model# of the unit.
- Are these online games or installed games on the computer that you are trying to play?
In the meantime, you may try the below steps, as even if the game is compatible with your system hardware it may have a slow performance because you are using the windows 8, 8.1 or 10 as the OS uses most of the CPU & graphics card usage, you might want to reduce the visual effects for windows to save the amount of CPU & Graphics card usage required to run your game properly.
Here's how you do it:
· Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.
· Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
· In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.
· click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.
If you don't like the way windows looks after the above step, you might want to consider upgrading your RAM (Memory card)
Then try playing different games and check. If it still does not work, try playing the game at a reduced frame rate and check.
- Please uninstall the ACPI battery drivers from device manager.
- Reset all power plans to factory defaults and then select high-performance option power from power options from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04752217
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphic drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
This should do the trick for you.
Hope this helps. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll always be there to assist you always.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.
