OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F2AV)

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with my RTX 3060. At random moments the screen goes black for about a second, and after that the GPU stops working entirely — I have to reboot the system before the video card works again.

From what I understand, this seems to be a fairly common problem with this model. Could you please advise on how it can be resolved?

For reference, here's a link to a description of a similar issue:

Thank you.

Hi  @Hareza

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that your OMEN 15 is intermittently experiencing a black screen for a brief moment, after which the NVIDIA RTX 3060 stops functioning until the system is restarted. I’ll be glad to help you look into this.

To better understand the behaviour, could you kindly share the below details?

  • The current BIOS version installed
  • The NVIDIA graphics driver version currently in use
  • Whether the issue occurs while gaming, during normal use, or both

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your device from the HP Support website.
  2. Install all available Windows Updates, including optional updates.
  3. Perform a clean installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver:
    • Download the latest graphics driver from HP Support  https://support.hp.com/ for your model.
    • During installation, choose Custom Installation and select Perform a Clean Installation if available.
  4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics - Click here for steps
    • Turn off the notebook.
    • Press the Power button and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
    • Select F2 System Diagnostics.
    • Run the System Tests, especially the graphics-related tests.
  5. In OMEN Gaming Hub, if available, test using Hybrid Graphics and Discrete Graphics modes separately to see if the behaviour changes.

I hope this helps.

My BIOS version sp165505.exe. (F.30 Rev.A)
I have tried clean installs of graphics drivers (using DDU for cleanup) — both older and latest versions.
The problem only occurs during gaming or running 3D applications. It usually occurs after 30 minutes of gaming, but sometimes it doesn't occur for a few days.
I also replaced the power supply unit with a new one, but that didn't help. The problem can also be triggered when running on battery power alone.
It doesn't look like a software problem — more like a hardware one. Online, all similar symptoms are found only on this HP Omen 15-en model. I found many reports of this problem. So maybe your repair team knows which component has degraded and can be replaced.

Hi @Hareza,

Thank you for sharing the details and the troubleshooting you've already completed.

Since you have already performed clean graphics driver installations, tested multiple driver versions, updated the BIOS, and even replaced the power adapter, the issue appears less likely to be software-related. The fact that the NVIDIA RTX 3060 stops functioning during gaming or 3D workloads and only recovers after a restart may indicate a hardware issue involving the graphics subsystem, motherboard or power delivery components.

To help confirm this, kindly try the following:

  1. Test both Hybrid Graphics and Discrete Graphics modes and note whether the behaviour changes.

2.Before proceeding further, could you please confirm whether you have completed the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests listed below, and let us know the outcome?

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Power on the notebook and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  • Select F2 - System Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Tests, especially the Graphics Tests.

1. No change, gpu still crashing
2. Yes, the laptop passes all the main tests, including the video tests and the VRAM test. So I was hoping something is wrong with the voltage controller or something like that.

Hi @Hareza,

Thank you for testing that and for confirming that the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests, including the Graphics and VRAM tests, all pass successfully.

Since you have already performed extensive troubleshooting, including clean graphics driver installations, testing different driver versions, updating the BIOS, replacing the power adapter, and the system passes the built-in hardware diagnostics, this appears to be a more complex issue that may require a deeper hardware-level evaluation.

While the diagnostics do not report any failures, intermittent GPU dropouts during gaming or 3D workloads can sometimes be related to components such as the graphics subsystem, motherboard, power delivery circuitry, or other hardware that may not be captured during standard testing.
