Hi, my Victus 16 laptop screen suddenly goes black and the power button blinks while gaming. Symptoms: System logs show "Kernel-Power 507" (Modern Standby interference). Troubleshooting: I have already performed a clean installation of NVIDIA Studio drivers and tried disabling Modern Standby via CMD, but the issue persists. Suspicion: I suspect a faulty Lid/Hall sensor causing false "lid closed" triggers. Request: Please guide me on how to physically test or diagnose the lid sensor on this model.

Hi @rifattuncer

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If the screen goes black, the power button starts blinking, and Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power Event ID 507, a faulty lid sensor (Hall-effect sensor) is one possibility, but it is not the only cause. Thermal shutdowns, firmware issues, power management problems, and GPU-related crashes can produce similar symptoms. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Test with an External Monitor

Connect an external monitor or TV via HDMI.

When the blackout happens:

If the external display remains active

  • Internal display assembly issue
  • Hall sensor issue
  • Display cable issue

If both displays go black

  • System-level sleep
  • GPU crash
  • Power delivery issue
  • Firmware issue

Hardware Diagnostics

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  1. Power off the notebook.
  2. Power on and repeatedly press F2.
  3. Run:
    • System Extensive Test
    • Power Test
    • Thermal Test

Please share the results to assist you further.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
