I'm thinking about getting the Omen laptop, but these heating issues are worrying. Should I still get an Omen or look towards a different laptop?

@BioWolf

Some people have different experiences than others, no matter what brand of device they try.

Omen laptops are warrantied. All we can suggest here is that you can try it out and if it does not meet your expectations, contact Support or look into the return policy of the store you purchase from. 😉

If you hate heat and thermal throttling, or in other words if you want your high-end CPU and high-end GPU to be able to work under full load constantly with full performance with no throttling whatsoever, then there are basically only two considerations you can make:

-purchase or build a properly cooled high-end desktop PC

-purchase an extremely overpriced super-premium high-end laptop where the manufacturers tackle a heat problem by actually applying a good cooling solution rather than just power throttle the components

If you go for option two, you will probably have to look for other manufacturers, because Omen basically offers two types of laptops:

-No power throttle, but thermal throttling (overheating)

-No thermal throttle, but power throttling (temperatures are ok, but performance is downclocked)

It's not Omen specific btw, most manufacturers work this way.

don't go for omen, thermals are not so good. while gaming it can max go on 97degree C

At the time.. I returned my HP omen 17 and opted for a omen 15.  No issues, it's great.  No heating issues - runs smooooth.

@Iggy_Nutmeg Interesting, I would have suspected it the other way round, given that the 17 models are much bulkier and therefore should have fewer heating problems. Were the specs for your Omen 15 similar to the Omen 17?

I didn't want the 15" thinking it would remedy the overheating I had with the 17".  I just wanted a smaller more compact unit.

I liked the price with the specs I wanted and didn't want to give that up so I decided to stay with the HP Omen giving it another chance.
