Hello guys

So i just bought a new HP Laptop, by the looks of specs this laptop should be a beast or at least pretty good at running games, i rly dont play that much of challenging games for the hardware (LOL,Minecraft,Rust,GTA V)

The specs:

Processor: i7-8750h

RAM: 2x 4GB (8GB)

Graphics Card: GTX 1050 4GB

Display: 15.6 inch

Memory; 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD

Alright so  iv been checking out and googlin issues on this problem and yes im running games on my dedicated graphics card, yes my laptop is always plugged in, no im not even playing or want to play on super high setting on the laptop iv done and checked everything that there is on google at least on the surface of it what might me the issue. I tweaked all the options and changed them and still nothing...On my PC that is like 4-5 years old on LOL i get like 400 fps, on Minecraft i get like 800-1000 fps....and the specs of my old PC are:

Processor: i5 4th gen

G. Card: GTX 960

RAM: 2X 8GB (16GB)

Memory; 1TB HDD

So as you can see im getting way more fps on my old PC with older and less powerfull components than on my BRAND NEW laptop that i have bought from the store with a fresh instalation of windows on it, there is no dust in it, i use a laptop cooler, i take good care of it and he just doesnt run like this laptop is suposed to be running, and yeah i forgot the cpu usages go to like 100% sometimes on the latop.I  want at least the same preformance from this laptop as i have on my PC that is way way older than this laptop, some people say that thats the case with all HP laptops that they are slow as hell but they market them as a good gaming laptop....pls help me i rly dont want to play my games on like 40-60 fps on an expencive laptop.

@karlo5345,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with FPS reduces while playing games. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you tried to make any changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to update the drivers either using WIndows update or using HP support assistant?

Have you tried to update the Bios?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform a Windows update:

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the display drivers from device manager:

Display drivers:

Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10

Select Device Manager.

Expand the entry. Right-click the problematic device and select Uninstall device.

You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, and graphics card drivers from our HP support website, using this link.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the HP Support Assistant from the control panel and then reinstall the latest version.

Download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

For more details, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP OMEN PCs - Improving Video Game Performance or FPS (Windows 10) (Though the header is for different model, but the steps suggested in this document should work).

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

yes i have updated the drivers and the BIOS and ig to like a 10 fps boost which is nothing....I did not do any changes to the notebook ANY changes...i installed windows, went to the League of Legends page installed the game and its prteforming poorly....the other tips didnt help, I mean "make sure that the power cord is plugged in so that the G. card has more power" I mean really? i came here for the HP Professional help, not something i can google too...if im not mistaken this is a pretty powerfull laptop that should be able to output a good amount of FPS >350-400 in the game that is like 8 years old and not to mention over 1000 Fps on a game like Minecraft  that is 10 years old and which is not power hungry at all

@karlo5345,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

After reviewing your post thoroughly, As I understand you have tried to follow the steps suggested and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue.

In this scenario, I would suggest here to run an extensive system diagnostics test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2(Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Depending on the test results if the test fails then this is clearly a possible hardware failure with the notebook.

If the test passes, I would suggest the next option would be to perform a system reset on the PC, for more details, please follow this link: HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)

If this does not help then the next step would be to perform a recovery using the recovery media, for more details on how to obtain the recovery media, please click here.

I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Try setting power to maximum performance and install the game on your ssd instead of hdd. And update your nvidia card and see what's using cpu and disable it when you are gaming
